Hi everyone,
I used to be a lurker but haven't been on here for a while...
I work full time as well as being a single parent to my young son. I don't think this is fair on him, so hopefully I will be able to pick up some advice and work a bit lessFeb 2008 Grocery challenge £101.74 (budget £150)

Hi all
Another lurker here! Used to post on some threads often, but have an 8 month baby, so spare time is a thing of the past! Dh on holiday from work for a couple of weeks so intend to get to grips with OS tips etc. Our working arrangements may change soon, so need to get back in the habits before we've no brass
We are myself, DS nearly 16, DS 8 months & Dh - DS 21 lives with fiancee & their baby, DS 19 lives with BF - DH works full time, I work PT at weekends, so don't have to pay out for childcare.
Must look at all these OS threads you've all mentioned that I've never seen before - what is flylady?! - & start grocery challenge & other schemes properly - have tried often, but have tailed off part way through a month. I'll be 40 this year, & although I don't make NY resolutions I've decided that my main aims are to get back into shape properly before my b'day & baby's 1st b'day, to organise all paperwork & finances & to deposit all money I save through this site into the best savings a/c I can - if I still have a little time before my birthday I want to use a TINY bit of the £ I save to smarten up myself (good haircut, manicure/pedicure, splurge on some good skin products, etc)!1
Hope to talk to some of you soon - happy moneysaving!!July 2024 GC £0.00/£400

Hi everyone
I've been reading the posts for quite a while without contributing much so I'll introduce myself here.
Employment situation about to change soon I think - have decided to give up work for various personal reasons, nothing too drastic though, touch wood. Basically I just need a rest!
I've always tried to save money as opposed to wasting it, but having made the above decision I'll need to try harder. It'll be a new experience to be a "housewife" as I've always worked (I'm now 51) but both partner and I currently have full-time jobs and nothing is getting done in the house. We're sick of spending most of our free time on chores. So I'll be able to do them! Also looking forward to making more food instead of buying it, such as bread, proper meals and so on, doing repairs, decorating etc. around the house, selling more stuff on eBay, and spending more time on the allotment, so that we have a tidy, productive plot with fewer weeds! I can up my jam and chutney production - as well as eating it ourselves I give it away as presents sometimes. (A few steps along the road to partial self-sufficiency).
We started the year by setting ourselves a challenge of making meals from our store cupboard. I tend to buy too many BOGOFs and then lose track of what's actually in the cupboard, so am trying to buy fresh food only until we've got the tins and packets down a bit.
When I'm not otherwise occupied I then hope to catch up on some reading!
Finding the Old Style board really helpful and am jotting down a lot of your hints and tips.
Cheers everyone!0 -
Hello Everyone.
Im 56 and work full time with ppeople who have severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviours. I als work vol as a meeter and greeter at the local hospital. I love gdoing that. i'm trying to OS our food at home, partly to lose all the weight i've put on since coming home, and partly to help mum with her new year's res of sorting out her finances.

Have been a lurker for some time, and really wanted to thank you all for all the fantastic money and time saving tips on here. Was just thinking this morning how many things I now do thanks to this forum: microfibre cloths, stardrops, homemade bread, end of week soup, meal planning, using leftovers instead of binning, and new for today is homemade yoghurt which is great. I have a few questions to ask you lovely people so thought I’d better introduce myself first.
Am 56 and left a high pressured PA job last year to take on the role of looking after my 2-1/2 year old granddaughter during the week (who is a lot easier to handle and more grown up than some of my previous bosses!). Able to do his because my dear OH is supporting me and is being repaid by lovely home cooked meals and stress free weekends. My adult son has returned to the roost for a short while and also have DD and SIL living close by so they are round (and need feeding) quite often too.
My aim is to learn to manage on a lot less money so that when we hit pension age it won’t come as such a big shock to manage on less and hopefully may be able to bring OH’s retirement date forward a bit.
Thanks again everyone.0 -

Hi I'm new to here so thought I should at least share something about myself!
I'm a full-time Library Assistant in a busy city library. When I'm not doing that I am cleaning my house,(tidying up after OH) reading or sitting here on the computer, trying to sort my life out! lol
It's just me and the other half but we have managed to rack up a load of debt so we are on the first steps towards sorting it out:eek: .
I think :money: is the bomb! And I'm getting loads of great advice from him and you boardies! :T0 -
