Hi all,
Most people who use the DFW board might know me - stopped posting thanks to some creepy stalker type posting my personal details on my diary thread. But I want to keep using the site and don't see why I should be stopped by some crazy woman who has an unnatural interest in me.
Mother of 2, DD's 3, and a tiny 2 month old son. We live in Grimsby, and are saving to move to the USA. We own a food export business sending teabags and decent chocolate to the expats, and OH also works at Games Workshop. We're now debt free, as the bank decided to pursue my ex husband for my main debt and I paid off all my littlies with the money that should have bought our house (fell through).
I knit, cross stitch and love to cook. I'm on the South Beach diet to drop some poundage before my wedding in July. Stone down so far since January but haven't been very good recently......
Can't live without my breadmaker and my slowcooker, with a small (and very grumpy) boy to attend to most of the day it's been a godsend to bung a load of stuff in it and switch it on. I make everythig from scratch still - rather know what goes into my food. I clean everything with stardrops, apart from Harpic for the toilet because it had the worst limescale I've ever seen. This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Hi, have been looking at this website for months and have been particularly interested in old style. I am a mother of two. One of my children has severe autism which means I have to be at home much of the day (school often needs me to go in for various reasons) So I have become a big fan of this site - it's a bit addictive though! I decided today after months of using your tips that I ought to register properly and try and give a little back.0

I'm 47, ex writer but now have a medical condition that means I can no longer work. I have one daughter living at home (19) and one who's living in Norway. I also have a son with profound learning difficulties although he lives with my mum at the moment.
I used to live a simple, basic life but got caught up in the consumer world. That's changing now and I'm much happier for it. You live and learn.
I generally visit the OS forum daily but don't post a whole lot. Strange because I'm usually a right old chatterbox.
That's about it I think.Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. - Confucius0 -

Can't believe I've never spotted this thread before - shows how often I look at the top of the board
Well, better late than never, lol - I'm 32, married with three boys under 7.
I'm a SAHM/carer as hubby is disabled now and needs the extra help. The two elder boys have unfortunately inherited part of his problem (HMS) - it's not stopping them so far, but it does affect life at times.
Anyway, other than looking after the hoard and spending too much time lurking on here, I'm usually found lurking around the reduced shelves in the local shops (lol), on a school run, or on rare occassions *shock horror* doing housework - I'm afraid the flylady wasn't able to pin me down, but OS is slowly getting me there.

Hi out there
Have also posted and been getting some great advice from the board without introducing myself.
I am single, 35 years old, and working full time. I am currently learning to manage my money properly, by starting to live within my means.
So have picked up loads of great ideas and today for the first time in years I have actually baked (usually would have bought expensive GF cake from shops) . Making the GF banana cake, although I don't think it has turned out quite right I have made valiant effort.
So thanks for leading me astray I am starting to enjoy OS way :TMortgage Owed: Sept 14 - £107398.200 -
Hi I live in the lovely Shropshire Hills. I've four kids the eldest (DD) just got married (I started young) - we had a wonderful wedding last summer, set our budget and stuck to it by doing loads ourselves. Two middle sons at Uni and youngest at Sixth Form. When the DS's are back they eat me out of house and home .... starving students you see.
OH & I have worked to be debt free and can happily say we are now! But still have scary mortgage - Mortgage free wanabee? Currently working freelance from home so tend to have very busy times followed by bit of a lull for which I'm very grateful.
Love all the stuff on here. Had some great tips from here and love all the ideas and chat. Especially like OS thread and vintage/shabby chic stuff as currently re-decorating our home DIY.
Love to cook and cook as much as poss from scratch. Just started to knit and sew again as a thrifty measure. Last week altered clothes and made a bag out of an old pair of jeans and finished decorating our bedroom. Feel tired just thinking about it! Lol Lil
PS Its just started to snow here!! & Its March!Doing a boring job but thinking of the money!!0 -
Hi
I've been here for a while now so best to introduce myself.
I'm a 39 year old house husband, married to a lovely wife for over 18 years and the proud father of two fantastic kids, one teenager girl and one teenager boy.
I'm what you might call "more domesticated" than my wife and we are happy to swap roles. She works, i cook and clean.
I've always enjoyed cooking and enjoy the simple pleasures of seeing the house clean after a hard days work.
OS forum is now home for me and i've learned a great deal and just wanted to say thanks. Because of the threads and discussions here I'm doing more and more adventurous cooking and finding news ways to cook them.
Although i joined MSE to save money it hasn't quite worked out that way for me, although we certainly haven't spend any more - just relocated the money we saved to buy other appliances. We've ended up, through reading topics here on OS, buying a breadmaker, rice cooker, slow cooker and god knows what elseBut its really enriched our lives and its nice to know your not alone and can share thoughts, ideas and advice with each other.
I've always thought that the old ways were better, remembering many from the past and having more remembered for me when reading these threads. My kids now know that stardrops is the miracle cleaner that handles everything, white vinegar does what mr muscle only dreams of and that soap powder isn't just for doing your clothesIts great that not only can i find fun exciting ways to make tasks easer, but that I can also pass that knowledge down to my children who, in turn, will, hopefully, pass it down to theirs.
So thanks again guys for all the warm replies to my questions, the friendship and the advice and making everyday household chores a pleasure.
I hope i can pass some knowledge i've learned both here and in everyday life onto others.
All the bestA male chef of 4. My restaurant is always full and i don't need to tout for business.
OK OK I'm a house husband but it did sound better my way :beer:0 -
