Have been reading the boards for ages......thought I was the only one who had spreadsheets with shopping budgets and froze any old leftovers!!

Anyways not posted all that often but thought I would introduce myself.

I am 26 and live with my husband of nearly two years and my 9 nine year stepson.

I work nearly full time (hoping to reduce that further at some time) for a bank and sometimes find it hard to be superwoman in the house as well as not enough time for everything.

My husband was laid off work before Christmas so also finding it hard going from two incomes to one but hey worse things happen at sea!!

Well that wasn't too hard. Might even join in a bit more.

    :D
  • I have been lurking for a while but havent really posted anything, I am rather hooked on reading the boards though! The site has been a great help in taking control of my finances which are in a bad way as a result of having been a student and then retraining for a new career.

I have used some of the excellent tips on the site already, hopefully one day I will be able to post a few myself!

Been posting on here for a while now, but realised I never introduced myself

I'm 21, female, got 2 little uns' one age 5 and one at 9mths (born on my 21st) used to be a dancer but now do ironing parttime for extra cash. Doing a health and social care course so I can go in to midwifery once the kids are a bit older.

I live in Bury, Manchester with OH and the kids, OH (the chauffer as he is known on here) is a mechanic and thus has filled my head with unwanted knowledge of cars.

Since coming in OS i have started cooking everything from scratch and doing around 3 roast dinners per week, and prepairing everything myself, stopped me being lazy.

Just hope i can keep it up:D

Hello, I'm Annie, I've been lurking for about three months and posting for a month or so.

I'm mid-30s and a middle manager in a local government department.

I think this site is great, especially this thread. Since joining I've started to cook from scratch and have started to clean with bicarb and vinegar - my Tesco's shopping trolley is very different to how it used to be...!!! I'm not spending very much less on food yet, but that's because I'm inviting lots of friends round for yummy meals!!

  • Hi
I have been lurking for months too & very useful it has been too ! I dont have debts (except the mortgage, grrrr, and some short term spreading of major costs) but since hanging about with you lot we have savings for the first time ever. Thankyou very much !!!!
I am 43, work full time (accountant, yes, it is boring). Two teenage boys, husband (recovering from severe depressions following a heart attack. i can cope but lets not go through 2004 again, please) 2 cats & a little parrot.
I come here (MSE) during the lunch break & sometimes for an hour in the evening if the computer is available.

Back to work now, nice to have met you

  • hi,

i'm 29, a single mum of a dd aged 9 going on 19!!!!! and we have numerous tropical fish (started with four within 2 days was up to 20 odd!!!!) I work pretty much full time, and i'm struggling for what else to say now. i like to cook, to bake when i get the time, i am a terrible hoarder and i always buy things that are on offer and hoard them, and its a habit i need to stop really, before we become over run with all the stuff!!!!! I do have some debt, but I'm happy its under control and am seriously hoping that by the end of 2006 it will all be paid off and we'll have a bit more money for us now we are getting on our feet properly. its nice i've had such a warm welcome here, and if i've missed anything out let me know and i'll put it in.

    hi,

I have always been os having been reared that way! but last year I had a scary illness and major surgery after which I cut down my working hours and started to search for more ways to save in order to compensate. A friend directed me to this site and it's great - expecially this forum, everyone is soooo nice!!

Anyway - I'm 42 with two teenage daughters and on OH. I'm an office manager 4 days a week and the rest of the time I cook, sew and garden. Managed to get a new allotment so intend to get that up and working this year. Also, looking for ideas to make a little money - through crafting or something.

    Bye for now!

I'm another lurker who's finally decided to 'come out'.
I've been on the MSE mail distribution list for about 18 months but it's only in December I discovered the forum & now I'm here every day & loving it.
I'm 52 & work full time as a team manager in the credit management department of an energy company. I'm also training to be a driving instructor so I can choose to work less hours if I want to.
I'm married to my second husband (10 years in March) & between us we have 4 grown up offspring all in their 20s & all of them have now left home.YIPPEE!! (Does that make me a bad person???)
We have a 4 year old Doberman called Harley who we adore but who's a bit of a handful, accident prone & constantly looking for mischief.
I've always been OS, sometimes through necessity but mostly because we work hard for our money & I like to spend as much as I can on things I WANT to spend on rather than things I HAVE to buy.
Apart from my husband, kids, family & friends I love baking & sewing & walking & cycling & holidays & family times & cosy nights in & fun nights out& laughing & live music. I hate night clubs & rudeness & the culture of 'celebrity' & tabloids & violence & prejudice & zenophobia (sp) & being ill & commuting.
I find this site inspirational because I thought I was the only one - now I know I'm not weird - or if I am, I'm in good company!
Looking forward to chatting with you all.
    xx
  • Im a newbee, first official month of grocery challenge and scared. Joined MSE last september? and so far have reduced our outgoings by just over £400 a month, still a bit to go. I am a stay at home to a 5 & 3 year old. apart from mortgage we are not in debt, but since my husbands career change last January if we carry on living as we have been, then we will be, so these boards have been invaluable to me.
look forward to getting lots of advise off you all.
