    Hi all!
I'm a 26 year old, living with my husband and our two girls who are 1 and 4. My husband got made redundant recently, and at the same time our landlord couldn't afford the mortgage, so we got turfed out! Luckily we have found a new place and are just settling in - it is actually bigger and has a garden, and only £70 more a month, which sounds a lot, but prices generally have been going up so I don't think it too bad.

However, this does leave us needing to save lots and lots. I have been using the "increase your income" board for a few months, and we do mystery shopping, surveys and ebay, but we still need to spend less and hopefully get a little savings pot behind us in case of a rainy day.

We're up in the north east of England, although I'm originally from Lancashire, and the girls are getting little geordie accents!

Trying to be really strict with spending, lots of batch cooking and growing our own, lots of bargain hunting, making do and mending and trying to reduce the amount that we chuck out- trying to make sure that everything has had every last scrap of use squeezed out before it leaves the house!
Goal = £9,000 in 2011, starting in March
    Current total - £779 banked by 09/04/11
Also growing, scrimping and crafting to not need as much in the first place!

I'm a part-time teacher - originally went pt because of various personal things - intended to go back to full time in the coming year but unfortunately my school is trying to save money to make more profit and so they are actually halving my hours which is going to make scraping by incredibly difficult so I am not feeling very positive at the moment. In fact, my comute costs so much that it is almost not worth working! But I'll manage - I am usually quite a positive person and enjoy a challenge so I just need to set my mind to this one too.

I have two cats and a husband, and love cooking. At least with my reduced hours next year, I will actually have the time to cook. If I won the lottery, I would buy a cafe in Portugal and run it inbetween writing a novel!

What else can I say about me? Hmmm I love reading and writing, painting (although the materials are becoming increasingly expensive), I would love to study more but I don't have the money and dream of owning my own business one day. I am really enjoying this site - I always knew of the main site but not the forums, and have been having great fun investigating the various discussions. I am also a passionate advocate of consumer rights and refuse to let companies get away with poor service or intimidating behaviour - I have to confess to having a good track record with getting compensation from companies for poor service. At the moment I am busy arguing with talktalk for my parents and BA for me! (Maybe that just makes me a grumpy nag!)

    Hello

I am Alison - mum to Daisy 3yrs and Archie aged 1yr. I have a husband who works in London - so long hours and we don't see much of hime during the week but it means our income keeps us off the breadline. I work part time as a nurse.

Always looking at ways to feed my family healthy home cooked food - that doesn't take much effort.

I also really like idea of finding ways to be more environmentally friendly - not using so many chemicals, fixing broken things rather than throwing them out.

  • I'm Amy,

I live in Essex and my OH works in london full time and I work in Essex full time working shifts. I love trying to save money how ever I can as does my OH who friends describe as the most tight bit generous person they know. We both like to save money where ever possible but spend on treats we can afford but still doing them for as little as possible.
I some times feel alien to my friends who happily spend away on credit cards etc and have no savings when i'm trying to save as much as I can out of my wages, not for anything in particular but you never know what's around the corner. I live growing my own veg and doing free things like walking and cycling.
