Hi LoveBargainsHateWaste and welcome to the OS Board. I've had a few never to repeat experiences with my slow cooker (to the point where the one thing DH doesn't mind me cooking in it is stew/pie filling) but on the whole it's a good way to cook. I love bargains too - my DH calls me a magpie around anything that resembles a coupon!

Hi everyone!
I'm a long time lurker, but finally decided to register and interact more to get and share some tips!:j
I'm 27, unemployed () for the moment. Fortunately my husband has a good job that gets us by for the moment, but we're still looking to save money anywhere we can, we appreciate having savings tucked away just in case.
I love making stuff in big batches, stew is one of my signature dishes. Looks like there's some great recipes around this board that I would like to try too. My weekly food budget is too high for my comfort, so that's the first thing I'm targetting to reduce.:cool:Dec GC; £208.79/£220

I'm a 23 year old communications assistant for the NHS, but my contract here is finishing at the end of March and I'm moving down to London to live with my OH the first weekend in April. I've been living at home since coming back from university in summer 2009 so this will be my first time properly being 'the lady of the house' so to speak (although I should add my OH is a very willing and able cook and cleaner!). I'm also aware that this 'grown up' lark will take a huge cut of my money in the normal boring things like rent, bills, getting to work etc so any other ways I can save are bound to be useful!
I've got a little bit of OS experience from my student days where I was very 'cook everything from scratch, batch cook, meal plans etc' but since moving back home I've fallen off the wagon due to not really having those responsibilities so I'm kind of starting from scratch.
The main things for me are probably going to be groceries - I'm budgeting £50 a week to feed two of us but am hoping to get it closer to £30-40, which may be difficult as I am the type who goes to the supermarket with a list of stuff to make meals for the week and then doesn't go apart from top-ups, whereas my boyfriend tends to buy stuff to make that night's dinner as he's going past the shop (our flat is ten minutes' walk away from a huge Tesco and there's also a pretty good local market at weekends) - and cleaning, because I tend to let everything build up and do it all in one go when I know dedicating half an hour to keeping on top of things will be so much easier!

I'm currently employed to help people back to work on health related benefits but by the end of the month I will be unemployed thanks to my lovely company who bleets on about transferable skills and core values but seems to have forgotten them when it comes to their staff.

Hello from me - I've lurked around these boards for a while now, and its time now to put some of the great tips I have picked up into practice!
I am 37 years old, with 3 children DS 13, DS11 & DD4 - I work full time, but it is the only wage coming into the house so anything I can do to simplify life and save money would be most welcome.
I have toyed with the idea of a slow cooker, but my family wouldn't entertain stew or anything like that, so any ideas on other things I can make in a slow cooker would be great.
I have quite a big garden and last year grew some lettuce, cucumber, courgettes and tomatoes (although I will be honest and say that my Dad potted them all up and bought them over to my house)
I do try and meal plan, but find that I probably still spend about £100 a week on food  what with the increase in diesel, I need to reduce the food spend to stay within my budgets.
