  • I'm a longtime lurker after my ma suggested I have a look on MSE upon beginning university! Love reading all the posts and as promised it's helped student life tremendously!

I'm a 21 year old student, currently in my second year (I took a gap year during which I nannied in the States), and work part-time as an office researcher. Live in a rented house with 3 boys, all of whom seem to sweat money, so I'm the odd one out (hoping it'll pay off in the longterm!), but I actually love the OS way so it's no great hardship!

Really lovely to hear everyone else's stories, I'm looking forward to chatting to you all :D yay OS!

  • I've been lurking on here for ages, so it's about time I said hello and thanks for all the money saving tips I've picked up over the last while.

I work in an admin job at the moment, but I am planning on re-training over the next year and a half, to hopefully gain a more interesting and lucrative career.

I have about £10k in debt which I am managing ok at the moment, but want to get paid off over the next three years, so that I'll be able to quit my job and go freelance.

I also want to save £10k over the same time period to give myself some financial security.

I am 35, live with my OH and we've been happily together for nearly 9 years.

Hope everyone is having a good day today - hugs to all!

I have been lurking here for a few months now, so I thought I'd finally register.

Found this board when searching for tips and recipes for trying out my shiny new Kenwood chef, an investment I made after much careful consideration. So far I absolutely love it, and it is well on the way to paying for itself.

I am 27, and live with my husband. We lucky to be debt free, having paid off student loans last year, and OH makes fairly good money, but as a PhD student I have very little income so we do have a bit of a budget to keep. We're also trying to save so that in a year or two we might put down the deposit on a house and hopefully start a family.

I love cooking and crafts so a lot of my old style money saving is as much a hobby as it is thrifty. I am also very conscious about the source of the ingredients I use, and try to buy organic and local as much as possible.

Looking forward to becoming more active in this community!

Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a few years and posting for a few weeks. I'm single after splitting with my partner last year after being together for 19 years. I have 4 children 10, 5, 3 and 1 they are home educated and I'm currently not working as I wanted to stay at home whilst my baby was under one plus the last 12 months have been extremely stressful due to the break up, house move, counselling and other related stuff. Although I rely on benefits for my income now whereas in the past both my ex and I worked (until our 3rd child was born when only he worked), I feel much better off and in control of my finances as my ex was extremely hopeless with money and would spend money as soon as he had it on what seemed to be nothing. It was also an abusive/controlling relationship so after so many years in that situation it is nice to at last be gaining some control over my life and finances. I've found this site invaluable for information especially when dealing with bank charges reclaiming and dealing with continued harrassment of creditors (both on my ex's behalf). Now that I'm single I'm finding it great for budgeting and moneysaving tips that there is no way my ex would have considered. Its nice to be able to see where the money is going for a change instead of constantly running out of money before the bills are paid and not knowing where exactly its all gone. At least now when I do get a job I'll be able to feel that I'm getting something back for my hardwork whereas in the past it just seemed the more I earned the faster it got spent.
Back on the money saving wagon again!

    Hi,

I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. :o

I'm Gayle 36, got hubby 41, ss 22, dd 18 and 2yr dd. I was a carer for my disabled hubby and working as a travel agent until 2006 when my mum got cancer. I quit that to care for her with my dad. She passed away that October and a month later i was pregnant. Didn't go back to work through pregnancy as my dad wasn't too good so cared for him. He passed away March 08. Last sept decided I didn't want to go back into travel so i started training to be a hairdresser.

All my life I have had a massive phobia of ALL insects and HATED anything to do with gardens/flowers etc. Last year i decided i wanted to grow my own fruit n veg so i joined the greenfingered forum and those guys helped me through my fears and taught me a lot about growing stuff!

This year I have branched out onto here and just been reading for a while! We are on state benefits, due to hubbys disability, but thankfully debt free (apart from monthly visa which we pay off in full). I am really into learning about saving money, recycling, reusing, cooking from scratch, gyo and anything else along those lines. I think the old traditional values are starting to come back, and i love it! I even asked for a sewing box for xmas!

Everyone on here is so lovely and helpful, :A it's great for people like me who are painfully shy and don't have much in the way of family or friends in the area..... that's about it really, sooo, hi from me!:)
