Hi, I have posted on this site a few times but only found this thread to-day:)
We have lived in SE England for 8 years now..we being dh, 3 dd's 18 14 and 9 and myself.
For various reasons I am a SAHM, dh had a stroke aged 42, three years ago, heart bypass 18 months ago- he can get around but memory probs are a real worry, dd14 has Aspergers, diagnosed last year (still not sure if seeking diagnosis has been a good or bad idea) dd9 going for assessment in March.Four grown kids as well, d33 s31, d29, d25...soon to be 14 grandchildren, hoping to stop counting soon.. for a while anyway LOL
Reason I find this thread so interesting is as I am at home all day I'd like to get back to cooking from scratch and do something useful with my time!
So thats me..looking forward to getting to know you all:)0 -

Thought I would introduce myself as I finally posted a couple of days ago after months of lurking! My name is Aurora, I live with my partner, our toddler and 2 cats. I would like to pay off our remaining debts (no biggy at the mo, thankfully) and begin saving towards meaningful things.
I would like to thank you all, just reading your posts cheers me up and informs me every single day :T0 -
Hello everyone,
I'm 42 and have 3 children from 1st marriage and 1 on the way, due early June, in my 2nd marriage. Older kids are DD1 18, DD2 15 and DS1 11 and share their time between their Dad and us - usually coming to us when taxi rides and purchasing items are concerned!!
I finish work (work full time) at the end of March (using up my annual leave) and start Maternity Leave on 1 June (fingers crossed!) - I'm going to sign up for a 5 year career break - but my skill in reigning in our family finances will dictate how long we can afford for me to be unpaid. I'm definitely off until the end of 2010 because I'll be paid for that period. So figure we've got 11 months to get our bottoms in gear and put away as much cash as possible to cushion 2011.
I'd love to use the time to explore alternative ways of earning a living as I've been with my current employer for 25 years, and although the pension is very good, I've really explored every avenue with them now and think a change would do me good.
I'm studying for a foundation degree in Canine Behaviour and Training (Distance Learning) - which is a 3 year course and hoping to do some volunteer work with English Springer Spaniel Welfare while I'm off work.
The other members of our family are 2 x English Springer Spaniels - 2.5 yrs boy and a little rescue girly who is nearly 5.
My big problem at the moment is using my time effectively - so hoping to get some tips here on how I can get on and do everything that needs doing, without spending a fortune and not keep getting to the end of every day having achieved nothing - I'm off sick at the moment with my back but don't seem to achieving anything at all - think I might need to draw myself up a timetable like being back at school!!0 -
Hello all!
After lurking for aaaaaages, I finally decided to join up properly and post
I a full-time working mum with 2 children and have decided that I need to get a grip of our finances before they wander seriously out of control! Am managing OK at the moment, but need to make sure it gets no worse. Very nervous about it for some reason, but I'm sure it will be worthwhile in the end.
Had my lightbulb moment over Christmas when the hubby and I both put down on paper what we spend v. what we earn -
Already loving the old style board and have picked up a few good tips as well.
Here's to a moneysaving 2010 & a new start! :beer:The 2012 mantra - "A place for everything, and everything in it's place"0 -
I'm a SAHM but I also do typing for a company on a freelance business which helps bring in a little bit of extra money. My DH works full time and we have 2 lovely kids aged 7 and 3.
I've joined the Flylady thread (house slowly coming together but I've only been doing it for 4 weeks) and also the grocery challenge but I'm sure there'll be more! I'm just looking to make best use of the money we do earn and to become more OS in my way of living. The MSE website has been a real lifesaver for us and I love seeing other people's ideas!
