Hi there I'm a very long term lurker and thought it was about time I came out from the shadows and say hi
My name is Carolyn and I'm nearly 40 :eek:. I have been out of debt for a long while now (just the mortgage left which I'm over paying) :j. However I'm staying with you guys to make sure I don't go backwards. I've spent such a long time reading all the posts on here I feel like I know you all already and I've learnt so much. Thanks guys :TAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Hi all,
I've been lurking around for a while.
I'm 22 and a healthcare shift-worker.
I'll be moving into a rented flat next week with my fiancee, after a period of living with in-laws to be, to pay off debts. I'm mindful of wanting to remain debt-free with the increasing costs of renting - hence wanting to embrace challenges here.
Hoping to get to know you better...

HI everyone:j
I used to be a full time Police officer but I have recently had to reduce my hrs to 30 due to circumstances at home so I am in need of some serious moneysaving!
. I am married and have 2 kids, a boy of 10 and a girl of 6, hubby has a disabilty (neurological) and so he no longer works, and we also have my 80 yr old mum living with us too who needs care, so life is pretty hectic in our house.
To add to that we are mad animal lovers so have 4 dogs, a cat, a parrot and 3 rabbits oh and also 2 hamsters:eek:
We always like to get away for a couple of weeks a year form all the routine, so luckily my brother moves in to ours for two wks bless him....I think if I didnt get away I would go slightly mad.
So thats me!!0 -
Hi,
Have been ghosting for a while, so thought I would introduce myself, I live in the south east, work part time, married, with two grown children who still live at home. Both children have a trade, and degree but due to the recession have been unable to find work in their chosen field, so are working long hours for not much money. Very dis-heartening after all that hard work. Husband has recently been diagnosed with cancer at a relatively young age, and had months of illness before they realised. As he is self-employed we are not getting any money. We are now in the process of filling out 52 pages of an income support request ( what a nightmare!).
Anyway, I thought I was pretty os but these forums have been a life saver.
I enjoy baking, cooking and recently making my own jams and chutneys, we did have an allotment but we have had to give it up as my husband has been unwell for the last six months.
I have been doing the grocery challenge for a couple of months myself, but am going to be brave and join the challenge to keep me on target!

Hello all
I am 40-something, married, female, and work part-time in a stressful job. I have always been a saver to some extent, started to take more financial responsibility when I read Alvin Hall's book (sorry, maybe shouldn't mention him!). His book was the sign-post pointing the way, but Martin's book actually gave me the map/details of how to get a financially healthier & better life-style. So eventually found myself here, but only felt brave enough to post recently.
I had started to realise I had to do something when my relationship was going through a really bad patch (4 miscarriages, failed fertility treatment, strained marriage, neighbours from hell, no money, husbands disability, family problems, family deaths, studying for a degree, separation, dad very ill, even my 2 dogs were ill - did I mention it was a rough patch!!?).
Being financially responsible and starting to see the mortgage being paid off early was about the only positive thing I had to focus on at the time, and it kept me from going off my rocker, a little bit of hope on the horizon. Thanks to Martin and his cheery MSE'rs it gave me a huge boost. I am learning so much browsing this site, and realise my own money-saving is put vastly in the shade by everyone here.
Thanks everyone for all their useful advice, it makes you realise you can still have a little bit going right for you, when all around you is going to hell...
Just to make the point - I am over the bad patch now. I am doing well, and hopefully nothing else dire on the far horizon.... Re-read this and it sounded like a misery memoir - I am alive and money-saving and (fairly) healthy, and working, and I even have time to have a laugh.:):ANow MF (thanks in part to following advice from MSE - cheers!)

I have been reading this board and have picked up some useful advice in the past year so thought I'd register to post myself.
I'm 34 and have 2 girls age 8 and 4, a crazy lab and a cat, oh and a DH! I work part time from home, which is difficult as I try not to spend too much time reading on here.
I have a couple of small debts (nothing big) but I am sick of having no cash left over every month. I am gradually getting better at managing this and have bought a cash diary (from Poun shop!) to try and help me stay on track.0 -
Just like to echo rosieben and say good to see all the newcomers, great place to be in and as rosieben has said, don't be afraid to ask any question at all, there is no such thing as a silly question on any of these boards.Like good food and drink?
Try Hotel Chocolat and Baileys.
