Hi All,
Im a mum to a nearly 1 year old boy and live with my partner.
I currently work full time but am desperate to spend more time with my son and so looking to reduce my hours. In order to do this I need to start being a bit more careful with my money so here I am0 -
After making my first post here an hour ago - im an addict!
37, ex qualified nurse (of 15 years) who decided to buy a pub some 4 years ago with her then hubby, lived "the dream" that turned into a nightmare, pretty much destroyed any signs of real life, not only made the best of it, but then sold it and bought another!
Still running the 2nd one, had to turn "chef" (loose term) having never cooked (long and boring story) with the "hubby" (its complicated I know, that we can live as we do) and am astounded every day that people pay for what i cook!
In the current climate life is tough, not only personally but buisness wise, but we are surviving, and im thankful, unlike so many.
I make the best of what I have, and whats left over makes a good soup!
JexI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
I should introduce myself. My husband has been a long time lurker of these boards and has learned some good information. I pretty much ignored it until someone on another board suggested some threads here for people looking to save money.
I used to be a pretty frugal person, but the past few years I've just ignored all budgets when it comes to things like groceries. We are spending about £75 a week (if not more) for groceries and household goods for the two of us and our cat. I had a bit of an excuse before because we were living with my inlaws and we didn't have full access to a kitchen. We've moved, but our bill hasn't gone down that much (maybe from £90 a week).
After ordering a grocery order that will probably last us almost two weeks (minus going to the shops for things like bread and milk) that came to £90 last night, I decided to become more active to try to reduce this. I am not sure what a realistic budget is, because I am not sure how far my husband is willing to go (a large part of this is convenience foods for his lunch, not all but a lot). I plan on menu planning, and although I make a lot of things from scratch, increase that and use more humble ingredients. Another complicating factor is I am not British (my husband is), and I am really still adjusting to the UK, the prices here, and some of the ingredients.
I look forward to learning a lot from this forum and the people here.0 -
Hello, bit of a long time lurker - feel like a time to get involved.
Our house is 2 adults and I'm a SAHM to two little lovelies DD5 & DD3.
I am frugal and we do finances monthly, we spend less than we earn and are debt free. I'm frugal because I like it, I love cooking from scratch, although some days I not as enthusiastic, but it's really more to do with the washing up.
I want to be more os so I'm ready to listen up and put all the hints and tips I've read into action.
I don't do resolutions as most times I break them, I deliberately quit smoking on Feb 01 08 instead of Jan 1st (as I would of failed). I think it's maybe me thinking I can't achieve a resolution but anyway I quit in Feb no problem. So this Dec 1 is my time to become more os. So far I've used up stuff that's nearly past its best (veg soup) I made a huge batch yesterday and there was LO for today and enough for dinner tomorrow. I've also got a bit of a sorry looking cauliflower in the fridge which I'm making into a cauliflower cheese tomorrows tea.
I've de-clutted most areas and got rid of a huge electric pan which I bought a few years back, so that went to the charity shop. When I took it in someone was there saying there oven had just broken so bought it from the shop.
I need to dig out my slow cooker tomorrow, as I'm making turkey casserole in it for Friday.Grocery Challenge - Aug 407.97/£320 - NSD 3/5

Hi
I am a poster on other boards and a lurker here. Want to get more involved in OS. I even just invested in a slow cooker (may need some pointers on how to use it)
I am 23, single and just got my first house on my own. So starting with bare FF and cupboards. Also have no kitchen at the moment which isn't the best tbh

Hi all...I've posted a few times now so best get the introductions done!!! I'm 28, work full time in the steel industry, its fairly well paid but not the most secure industry to be in atm!!! I have my own house and a mortgage that is bigger than I'd really like!! OH lives 30 miles away and we're thinking of moving in together, I'll move in his house as the mortgage is paid so we'll rent mine out to pay towards the mortgage and hopefully overpay a bit too.
I love cooking from scratch but like an earlier poster said, the washing up sometimes puts me off!! I work 12 hour shifts atm so I have to try to be organised where food/cooking is concerned. I hate waste and speding money unneccesarily and OH is the same so thats good!!0 -
 First of all a big hello to everyone!
I'm fairly new to the OS board. I'm 29 and live with DH. Have signed up for the Living on £4,000 a Year Challenge on the How Much Have You Saved? board so am going to try to cut back in certain areas.
I'm going to start meal planning in January and doing batch cooking. DH does most of the cooking but I actually did some baking for the first time at the weekend as we had friends round for nibbles and was amazed at how well they turned out! I made sausage rolls, cheese straws and fairy cakes!
I've downloaded and printed the OS calendar and I think that'll help me next year.0 -
Hi, I am relatively new to MSE (usually lurking of debt free wannabee) and then found the old style board (BRILLIANT)!
I work full time - mum of 3 plus 2 stepkids (however only 2 live with us full time), i am 43 - married - dogs - chickens - enjoying gardening and cooking and dreaming of the day I can give up the rat race and escape to a smallholding (approx seven years away - when debt all gone)
Looking forward to getting to know you allWell Behaved women seldom make history

Hey all!
I'm another mostly-lurker, I come over here from the DFW board from time to time, mostly for the recipes :-)
Im 22, and live in London with my partner. I finished my MSc last year, which is where all my debt is from. I work for an international charity, so I travel a fair bit for that. I left home very early and don't have many housemaking /cooking skills, so thats why I come to you lot to be surrogate, interweb based mummies!Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000Debt free as of 1 October, 2010
