  • Welcome Sukiesoo and Dawn :) Nice to see you here. I'm the same as you, Sukiesoo, my DH and I are both in our early 30s with no kids, but sadly no pets as we can't as part of our rent thingy. :( I love getting recipes from here to try and have cut down on my jar of sauce usage has gone down too (although I still get jars of curry sauce as I've never been able to get those right :s ).

    hello :)
I'm 28 and a single mummy of 3 beautiful girls, ages 10-12. I'm currently studying for a BA Literature with the Open University.
I've been a lurker on here for a long time but only started posting recently. My children's nutrition is really important to me so I pride myself in not buying processed muck in yellow boxes for them! (Or, 'orange food' as I like to call it!) I have recently been utilising my slow cooker and am just getting to grips with the notion of 'dry' cooking meat... so far, so good!

  • I'm 37, live with my partner, no kids at the moment, just a cat! Have always cooked from scratch for as long as I can remember. Have the occassional ready meal for lunch, but generally I make pretty much everything we eat with the exception of bread and the odd tin of soup!

Have loved posting on these boards over the last few months, really getting into meal planning and budgeting the food bill - we are getting married next year and need all the available cash possible.

I love cooking and I love the challenge of using up odd ingredients I have lying about the kitchen...not everything is a success, but we have had a load less waste food over the last few months.

    Thanks for all the inspiration...

  • Hello everyone, I am 57 years old living with my gorgeous DH up in the NE of Scotland near Inverness. I am a Chef but have had to cut back on the hours as I just can't physically do it anymore ):, have also got a wee ironing business which has helped me out of financial holes over the years! I can see this site becoming addictive!

Hi all, have been here for almost a year and not really joined this side of the site :o

I am 35, single mum to 3 kids, 15, 8 and 6, work part time and am desperately trying to pay as much off my mortgage as possible, (its become an addiction!!) trying to spend as little as possible for things we need. Always searching for a bargain and try my hardest not to pay full price for anything!!

Am looking forward to getting lots of tips, I only wish I could cook from scratch but i am rubbish at cooking. I do have a slow cooker which I have used a few times but really need an idiots guide recipe with very very basic ingredients as my kids have a fussy pallet!

  • Hi,

I'm 32, single, and living in a houseshare with one other person. I have an average-paid job as an editor, although paying for travel and further education has left me with some big debts and my actual income each month is equivalent to about £6k lower than my nominal salary.

I was engaged to be married and move in with my partner this time last year, which would have been my first time living with a partner, so I went into nesting and homemaking mode and haven't really come out of it since! (Despite the toad being long gone now.) So I'm into cooking in a big way, and still making enough for two.

I'm interested in Voluntary Simplicity, and being as green as I can, and both things seem to lend themselves to OS money-saving. I'm also really interested in traditional crafts and ways of doing things (think Victorian Farm :D) and OS seems to lend itself really well to that too. I'm a well-trained bargain hunter and come from a long line of women who knew how to find a good deal, although the thrifty cooking skills seem to have skipped a generation with my Mum and I'm teaching myself since there are no grandparents left to learn from. :o

I'm also very crafty, and love making things, and my natural curiosity and inquisitiveness leads me to want to know how things are made too, so I find myself experimenting a lot and learning to make things (soap, candles, sweets, butter, wicker baskets, washing powder etc) that I could probably buy cheaply and easily, but I get an enormous sense of satisfaction out of making for myself.

So that's me :p I've been lurking here for a while now, and have only just started to post - I was absorbing all of your wisdom before and didn't have anything of my own to add, but now I'm ready to jump in. Thank you all for being so friendly and welcoming, and for not laughing at my daft questions! :D
  • I've been lurking for a while now & only occasionally posting. I have decided that now is the time to start joining in a bit & posting/reading more regularly, rather than just when I'm trying to work something out.
The old-style board is my spiritual home I think :rotfl:everything here makes sense to me - although not necessarily to my dh!!
I am sahm to 4 children, dh is a teacher. In terms of income we're doing OK, but over the last couple of years, for various reasons, our spending has been a bit uncontrolled. We have had a year of big spends - fridge freezer curled up and died, computer, washing machine, and now it looks as though our boiler might well be about to gasp its last breath as well:eek: - all of which means that our cash flow has suddenly ground to a bit of a halt. So ... I'm here, looking for recipes and old-style ideas to keep me on the straight and narrow!! I'm off now to see if weazl's 50p thread is still going;)

  • Hi LBF! I'm not much of a poster, either.
There's so much to read, I feel like I don't get a chance to post... :o
Nice to get involved though, isn't it?
