Have been lurking for a while doing the grocery challenge to get me into this.
I am a late 30s mum to 2 kids (1 8yr old DS) and 5 yr old dd I work in a scientific area as does hubs both work FT but child friendly enough to take them to school and pick up and take them to various afterschool activities (which I darent cost up a total for!
For ages I have known we were spending far too much money and not watching the pennies and really want to start saving more moeny to pay the mortgage off faster whilst we can, so I thought groceries would be a good place to start controlling the spending, if I could get that in line then the other spending would follow and for the last 2 months if has been pretty good although Christmas spending will be a challenge.
I thought I would tackle spending first and hopefully try and tackle weight loss next !! putting it off!!
So thats me really

I have no idea if I've been here or not...so here goes.
I'm a very young looking 26 (everyone thinks I'm about 18) and I've just started my first year at uni studying Film and TV Studies. I am unable to work due to a mental health condition, and have been unable to for the past two and a half years. As I am at uni only 14 hours a week (with a LOT of support if I need it, which I have been doing recently) I have a bit of time on my hands, especially Thursdays and Fridays. I've managed to persuade the OH that cooking things from scratch is a lot more tasty than buying it pre-made, so for the last month or so we've bought all the ingredients and made it ourselves...I am very proud of my beef and bacon meatballs, and my sausage casserole. I cook as I learnt to when I was younger with my mum, and try to do as much as I can. Thanks to my mum, I can also cross-stitch quite competently (used to make my own designs and cross-stitch them, and am maikng two Xmas pressies this way) and I can knit, although I have NO idea where to get cheap decent wool and patterns from (if anyone can help or donate I would be VERY grateful) I'm also trying to lose around 3 stone, most put on due to medication that makes me VERY hungry (in fact, after this post I'm going to go and get a bowl of jelly out of the loaf tin) I'm also lactose and gluten intolerant, and would welcome any gluten free food advice.
Ok, that's long! If you managed to read that,

I do it all because I'm scared.
