Hi
I live in Manchester with my hubby and DS, 4 years old. Originally from Lancashire, came to uni in Manchester and never went back
I'm 28 and I work part time as a Compliance Executive for a recruitment company, I specialise in criminal record checks etc and basically keep undesirables out of the workforce :rotfl:
OH is a painter and decorator - although looking round my house you would never know it
I used to work full time but dropped to 22 hours to spend more time with my son and be more involved with school. Love this board, it's saved me a fortune in shopping!!Avon Representative October 2010: C16: £276 :T C17: £297 :j0 -
Hi everyone,
I'm 40. I live in Manchester with my OH, three kids aged 14, 12 and 10 and three Devon Rex cats.
I work as a financial administrator for a firm of Financial Planners. OH works for a property developer that converts old buildings into posh apartments.
I love to save money - although I don't pay the rent, utility bills or grocery shopping. I do pay for everything for the kids - clothes, hols, lunch money, and every other expense associated with them.
My goal is to have a little slush fund in the bank so I'm not always waiting for payday.Wendy x0 -

Hi all
I'm 37 married with 2 teenage sons, 1 daughter who will be 3 tomorrow, step-son 8 step-daughter 10 who both live with us and a step-daughter 12 who still lives with her mum and visits every other weekend. My husband is a SAHD and i work 4 days a week.
I've been lurking for a while after realising we were leaking money - mainly on food (ie Take-aways!!) so about 6 weeks ago i decided to start planning meals and shopping from a list and while i have 'fell off the wagon' and ordered take away one or twice on the whole i'm getting there!
Apart from eating better our waste has gone from 2 wheelie bins a week to less than one!
Recently bought a slow cooker and i'm in love:heart2: and getting a larger one today. Also getting a freebie chest freezer at the weekend...there will be no stopping me!Climbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

Hello hello.
Firstly I'd like to say a big thank you for all the advice and tips on here, though the most helpful thing by far has been knowing that there are lots of people from all walks of life and backgrounds who have opted out of some of the worst excesses of our Western lifestyle.
I'm 26, I live in London with my very new husband who is a student doctor, and I work as a project coordinator for a charity, teaching adults who don't have many opportunities in life. I've always worked in the charity sector apart from a recent year as a management consultant during which I stopped cooking and cleaning and sleeping - not recommended!
I love cooking, particularly Indian and Italian food, and want to try and be as environmentally conscious as possible (very important to me as a Christian!), thankfully something my husband (or OH as he shall henceforth be known) is passionate about too. We live in a flat in a car-free development so at least that side of things is mandated for us!
That's me really. I hope in future I can help one or two people out and not just take, take, take from all you experts.
Oh PS I have a breadmaker but don't use it. Am I still allowed to play?0 -
Hi All!
I think I am considered as an old face on MSE now although only just discovered the delights of this area of forums after ML's programme the other night!
OK...here goes!
I am 41. I am a Freelance Consultant (due to being made redundant in June) so (as anyone who is self-employed knows) my work is varied. I teach 14-16 yr olds Enterprise Capabilities, do work for an Art Gallery & run workshops in butter making, cheese making, soap making, thinking skills, stress management etc! I was shortlisted this year for the Remote Worker Awards.
I live on the Isle of Wight with OH (Farmer) and two kids (13 & 11). We Home Educate the youngest.
We live on a farm and have Dexter cows, sheep, geese, pigs, chickens, ducks, dogs & cats!!!
We produce our own meat & grow our own veg.
Learnt alot of thrift from my Mother from the war years & also from old farmers.
Look forward to meeting you on threads xxxxxxInfamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!

Hi, I'm new to all this too, been lurking for ages getting some great ideas and budget and meal plan etc as my income is quite low and want to be able to spend my cash on things I love, not fritter it away on unnecessary stuff.
I'm 31, live alone in Glasgow and love it. Love seeing friends, socialising and theatre so have to do OS to afford all the good stuff!

I'm a 40 year old Director in a public sector organisation. OH is self-employed and have a 32 year old SS and wife, 29 year old SD and 18 year old DS. I have a lovely life and try to save money where I can although don't have any money problems at present but can't see the point in paying more than I have to for anything even on high end products. MSE gives me some good advice that I've used and more recently I have started making my own bread, growing my own chillis and tomatoes and turning off everything we are not using etc. I also use my slow cooker more than I did and follow up on the offers on grabbit etc. I've also posted offers I've seen. I've always been a bargain hunter and this has helped when in earlier years we didn't have much cash. Think I may not be your usual MSE follower!GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200
