I nipped into Poundland in Stratford (mistake as it was such a scrum!) yesterday evening in search for some Chistmassy candles, having just given 2 big jars away :o . I came away disappointed: vanilla, lavender and a vile strawberry were all that were available.

The store has seem to have gone Christmas light crazy though. I picked up several boxes of these ones, on account of the fact that I only have to stick some batteries in them. I can hang them high up, and its far safer than having wires trailing back to sockets with an inquisitive toddler around. I'm not sure its a bargain, but it serves a purpose.

    Check local branches.

Toblerone might still be the same old size at 170g. Mine had loads at this size. Thought about buying the whole box.
  • Nails Inc nail varnishes were in stock in my local!
  • Nice & Easy Root Touch Up in my local branch today but only in Light Ash Brown shade.
  • Found Always Infinity sanitary pads in my Store (Hempstead Valley). Usually £3.50 each in Tesco, or on offer for £2 so I stocked up! :P

I bought a small scented candle from Poundland the other day. I think it was Cole and Lilley. It's scent was nice but when it got towards the bottom of the jar the glass cracked. Luckily I heard it and blew the candle out but it could have been nasty. I can't read the name on the jar any more as it is black and burned

Glad you weren't harmed. It's likley to be a one-off (perhaps there was a small crack before you bought it?) but do email Poundland to let them know, in case it's a batch fault.

I found some lovely tall candles in glass in Poundstrecher earlier this week in the usual scents, for £1. The most Christmassy smell was black cherry, and I have it burning away in the background as I type.

Popped into a Poundland earlier today and it was full to the gills with carp.

I've read similar complaints about Wickford & Co (sold in Home Bargains) small jar candles - not the humungous £2.99 "95 hour" jars - which, by the way, I heartily recommend - Gingerbread and Warm Apple & Cinnamon are great and have very strong scents.

The small glass jars are thinner and can't seem to withstand the heat. I've read some candle junkies don't burn any of their jars right down to the bottom, as a rule - but, if there is a danger of a jar cracking and splitting - there should be a warning label!

I always burn candles down to the bottom, and expect them to be safe.
