Ordered my daughters christening dress from a catalogue, vertbaudet.

    www.vertbaudet.co.uk

    or you could try www.redoute.co.uk

They don't sell traditional christening gowns but they do sell really pretty dresses for little ones, I bought a white cotton dress that had little embroidered flowers on the front, then got some plain white tights and white satin baby shoes to go with it. Got the shoes from a local shop that sold all the christening stuff but they were in a sale so wern't very much at all. Everyone thought she looked lovely.

Think both the above web-sites have got sales on at the moment as well so you might get a bargain!

    Good luck!
  • The weather has been so very hot lately that you could ask friends if they have a gazebo you could borrow to put in the garden.

In terms of food, we went to Waitrose and bought those mini cakes they do in packs of 9. Mini bakewells, chocolate and lemon meringues, they went down a treat, also florentines in the cake counter were a great addition and made the plate of cakes look fantastic.

We just served quiche, sandwiches, cocktail sausages, and loads of crisps and it kept everyone happy, and could prepare it all the night before to take the stress off the day.

If you go to tescos their own make Premier Krut (or however you spell it) is lovely and fairly cheap, alternatively if you want to go even cheaper, try Tesco own sparkling wine for the toast.

I couldn't bear the thought of making a cake, so ordered one from Waitrose.

There are so many lovely baby girl dresses out there, that I would just choose a very cute one, if you can find one in cream even better and have some matching knickers! There are so many sales at the moment I am sure you will find something. Monsoon have a good sale of baby dresses

Good luck. We had a lovely christening for our daughter.

I got her dress from BHS, I think it was about £30?

I pretty much made all the food.

I made individual fairy cakes rather than a big cake to save on having to slice it up. I iced them and used royal icing to stamp out my daughters name, I put one letter on each cake. We found that this was much easier for the children we had invited.

I also got my mum, mil and aunt in law to bring along a few bits each (ail brought sandwiches - a god send cos they can take ages to do, mil brought chicken drumsticks and nibbles, can't remember what mum brought) and that helped loads.

I warn you though you will end up with about 30 silver money boxes!

For my youngest daughter - as hubby had carefully put away the christening dress and forgotten where!!!!!

I ended up sewing my own dress - just got a white baby romper suit in cotton (already had) and added a skirt of broderie anglaise with a lining - got pearl trimmings to hand sew on top (blouse part) - it ended up looking really good.

That's beautiful. My son's shawl was knitted for me when I was a baby by my gran and now passed down to him. Lovely feeling.

  • She's seven months - will be eight when she gets dipped.

I couldn't believe yesterday when we went grocery shopping that Asda do christening gowns now. £12 for something quite pretty too ... we're going to go into town to see if we can get a bargain, and if not it's coming from Asda ...

Now to plan the menu ...

I got my sons outfit for Jasper Conran in Debenhams. They were very helpful. For his christening cake I took the cutest picture i had of him (and it was hard to choose just the one). And took it to Asda where they put it onto a cake. Cost around £10 and is very personal.

    Have a lovely day.
