Christening and alternative naming ceremonies (merged)

My baby will be 9 months when he is christened in January.

Does any one have an ideas for his Christening outfit and where I could get it from?

Thanks

My daughter was 9 months old when she was christened a few months ago. I got her dress from e bay. It was lovely and cost me only £15.00. They had lots of christening outfits for both girls and boys. Definately worth checking out.

I attend a lot of christenings as a church steward and the general trend seems to be moving away from formal gowns and sailor boy outfits to ordinary smart outfits that can be worn again for parties, special occasions and weddings.

My little boy was 4 months old when he was christened

I got him a linen suit from vertbadet but i can't find it on the website now.

    This is similar

    http://www1.vertbaudet.co.uk/cgi-bin/Vertbaudet.storefront/419bbcef00c1f56427730a0b00320699/Product/View/2617636&2A&2A06M

He wore it with a blue checked shirt from Mckays and some little soft boots from Tesco's. We thought he looked beautiful but it may not be everyones taste.

Remember if you do get anything from vertbaudet there are money off codes in the online discount section

Good luck and I hope you all have a lovely day :):)
Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.
  • I also got a nice outfit from Vertbaudet, very reasonable, I did have a look at "traditional" christening gowns from a baby shop and the prices were shocking - nothing under £50.

Whatever outfit you put baby in also remember to buy a nice bib to put on the baby until the last minute, and keep some wet-wipes to hand, my little boy splattered my husbands suit with regurgetated baby milk!

I thought that too(thankfully), I find christening gowns and the sailor stuff horrendous, I'd say there is much more moneysaving value in getting an outfit to be worn again(at parties etc.) than one the children will look back at pictures in a few years and hate you for.... ;)
  • Hi, My son was christened in October when he was 10 months and like you I didnt want to spend too much money and also as he was a bit older, didnt want him to look daft. I ended up putting him in a pale coloured checked shirt with beige/cream trousers and little boots - all high street clothes he can wear again. He looked really smart and yes I kept on his bib until the last minute! I was in Asda last week and saw they had absolutely lovely outfits: trousers with shirts and little pullover sleeves jumpers. really smart! You also get them in Admams/Mackays and Gymboree are having a sale at the moment. Hope that helps, enjoy your day x

My son was only three months when he was christened, but I didn't put him in a gown. I found a shirt and romper (looked a bit like dungarees) in white satin, all padded and beautifully stiched. (It was December, and cold!)
However, I bouht it in Woolwich Market from a baby stall, and haven;t seen anything like it since, but if you try traditional independent baby shops, you may find something similar.

  • I am due to become a godmother to my friends daughter, who will be 1 by the time she is christened.

Does anyone have any ideas for a present?

I would like it to be something special, as I feel that it is a special privilige to be her god mother.

    Can anyone help me please

    Thanks

My Godson is now 11 & I see being his Godparent as a lifelong commitment, therefore I gave him Christening preasents that I could follow through with as he grew up.
For his actual christening at just under 1 year old I bought him a collection of calssical stiroes told in picures. Some were biblical, like Noahs Ark & the birth of Jeasus, others really were classics like Romeo & Juliette, Oliver Twist, the War of the Worlds etc. They were very simplified & just pictures. As he grew up I steadily bought him older versions more suitable for his age, there are great childrens versions of Shakespere & Dickens availble,, plus added others like the Narnia Chronicals, the Wind in the Willows, Hans Christian Anderson Fairy tales & of course, those modern classics Harry Potter! Sometimes we read them together, sometimes he would read them by himself & tell me about them in our weekly phonecall. If he particually likes a story I try to find it on DVD & we watch it together & he is very good at picking up what has been changed & we talk about why it was changed for TV & what it means to the story.
He is now 11 1/2 and anticipates finishing the ADULT version of Lord of the Rings by Christmas. He has already read the Hobbit. If nothing else I have given him the gife of reading, he loves books, is way above his reading & spelling age at school & can hold very intelligent conversations about books & films. Oh, and he has been able to recite "T'was the Night Before Christmas since he was 6, always good for the "aahhh" factor!

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!
