A friend of ours painted and framed a picture for our latest baptism. It'll be treasured forever,as it was so personal.:T
Do you have any particular talent you could use for this purpose?
I'd like a talent, but I just have to go the shop bought route:(
I suppose husband could thatch a roof.:think:I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
There's quite a bit of Darwin related stuff on ebay. Old copy of The Origin of Species for about a tenner?
People always think that you have to get a christening present for them at the age they are now, but maybe something that they can use in the future could be just as good?0 -
We have bought for friends/rellies kids old (not first, but fairly early editions) of Winnie the Pooh, Alice in Wonderland etc. The parents seem to love them now and their children will hopefully grow to appreciate them in a few years, and if not crayoned in, they may well increase in value. I still have a set of Pooh books from childhood which I treasure.
Another idea is buying an acre of rainforest, or a tree.0 -
We now have a standard gift for weddings & christenings alike : An acre of Rainforest. A flat £25 cost & personalised to the recipent & lasts forever. Link is here :

In the past we have given a case/bottles of wine/champange with a gift card attached saying to be stored & matured for the recipents 18th birthday/wedding which has gone down well.Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
How about adopting a baby monkey or baby ape

Edit: Failing that, I have a plate which has a picture of a stork delivering a baby with a clock in the background that shows the time I was born, my name, date I was born and weight is also on their somewhere. I'm now nearly 30 and my Mum still has it displayed in her kitchen and I know it is something she and I will always treasure.
Could you get a plate with a picture of monkeys or something else Darwiny on it and have her name/weight/date/time/place of birth painted around the edge or somewhere on the plate. You might even still be able to get one specifically for new babies from somewhere like royal dalton or you might be able to get one comissioned from somewhere like Denby??When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt

Actually, that's a good idea. But as it's a christening, maybe adopting a baby in a poorer country.... therefore one baby can grow up in the loving care of it's family, learning, as it gtes older, how it is helping the developement of a less fortunate babe.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

We're trying to organise my daughter's christening for next month, but are trying NOT to spend very much. We're having the buffet afterwards in our garden (PRAY for nice weather :rotfl: ) and don't really know what else we need to think about.
Where can we find cheap-ish NICE outfits - we don't want a fancy gown or anything, just something she won't look back on in twenty years and hate us.
Anyone been there done that and can help, please?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0 -
Woolworths always have really cute stuff for little girls, i think adams have a sale on right now.
Or debenhams always have a sale on or coming up!
happy shoppingThat mrs macchicken to you!0 -
We got our son's christening outfit in Gap. Their sales are very good and the staff were lovely and helped my husband try a few different outfits on him. Don't go to Next. They were rude and unhelpful. A couple of days before the christening my husband tried to return his clothes because they didn't fit. The store manager wouldn't let him in BABY NEXT because he had the pram!?! She said the store was too full.
When he explained that it was for the christening and he was desperate, all he wanted was his money back or store credit and could she please help, she said no. To come back after their sale was over.
Hope the weather holds and you find something nice for her.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
