Hand car wash damage to car

Hate these "hand car wash" places, they all seem to operate in pub car parks, god knows what cleaning agent they use to clean your car with. Seem to be all over the place here in Birmingham. Rather take my car through the car wash or use the jet wash in the petrol station.I hate migraines.0

but been able to blend the new paint into an existing paint job or laying the flake in the metallic correctly so it matches is a Black Art in my eyes
the only thing with using a rubbing compound on a clear coated car is you will marr the clear coat which will need further work to remove the fine scratches.. and if teh OP's car is down to the colour coat it wont do any good at all..It was a monkey bike (honda ST70 if I remember rightly) and My dad had already previously helped me rebuild the engine

the laquer came off the bonnet,am i right?
paint and laquer will easily come off if pressure washed if the paint isnt totally sealed.
what im trying to say is this problem possibly all started with a stone chip, the pressure washers jet of hot water has got under the chip and lifted the laquer very easily.
this may or may not have happened, but this will possibly be the arguement you will face when you go to the car wash to complain....work permit granted!0 -
Wow this got a little heated didn't it?
Applying a coat of wax does add a layer of somthing normally carnauba and can make the surface feel smooth again but it won't repair a chip or removed area of the clear coat on a cars paint. It may add some shine to the area but it worn't restore the shine that the rest of the car has that has a layer of clear coat.
Car paint is layered, they are either 2 coat (primer, colour and clear) or single stage (primer and colour) vauxhall flame red is a good example of single stage most are a solid colour and fade over time resulting in pink cars. the 2 coat paint is usually 25% primer, 25% colour and then 50% clear coat. The total thickness of the paint is usually about 100-160 micons thick on a factory paint job. A layer of wax will not add anywhere near the thickness needed to replace the clear coat and a layer of wax isn't a permanent thing over time it wears away depending on the wax even the stupidly expensive zymol royal or solaris is not a replacement for a layer of paint/clear coat.
It may improve the look but you need to speak to the guys who washed the cars and get them to pay for the damage they caused to be fixed.0 -
Actually during my apprenticeship at a Land Rover dealership, we were told not to put the lance too close to the cars as it could rip off the lacquer. And this was on Range Rovers so hardly a £2.99 Kia Pride with a 50p paint job.
I can understand that kind of thing could well happen on a Range Rover, I am certain that it wouldn't happen on a Kia with a " 50p " paint job.:rolleyes:0 -

The car is a Volvo V40 T4S, year is 2001 on a 51 plate
never had a problem in the past with it, took to garage last night and they are having it in on Saturday to see if the wax thing will work.
They said they wash over 500 cars a day and have never had a problem, tbh have used them in the past with no problem, but the evidence is there for all to see.....
anyway will wait and see if the waxing thing is any good, if not I shall be asking them for their insurance details - if they have any.
Have rung the local council and they don't need a licence to operate.
they rent a space of a well known franchise garage, the garage say nothing to do with them, which I can understand, however if someone was operating a business from my property I would be keen to ensure they had the necessary insurances
Will have to report back after Saturday to see how it goes .....2007 £1749
2008 £291.99
2009 JanMasscara £7.00 Feb megcabot books x 2 £20 XFactor tkts x 2 £58.00 (couldn't go though as they only phoned on day :-( ) foundation £7.99
total so far for 09 £92.990 -
might be an idea to get some good pics of the damage and get things in writting that they caused damage on xx date etc0

right as someone who works with paints everyday i have noticed a few things in this thread, mostly fail.
First off, why did you take your car to a hand car wash, all they do is damage your paint. If you catch your car in the sun you will notice, the swirling in it. these are scratches, they are inflicting with there washing.
Secondly, they charge like £5 do you really expect them to fix it? they will tell you where to go.
you are now taking it back to them to have a coat of wax on it :rotfl: :rotfl: that wont do anything, apart from bring a tiny bit of shine back through all the scratches inflicted on your paint by them anyways.
there are 2 fixes for this problem. flat it down with some 2000 grit sand paper and polish it back up with a compound polish, preferably on a buffer. this will blend the laquer into, your unlaquered paint. not the best way to do it.
second one to do, is to take it to a body shop, not a valeter and get some laquer squirted over it proffesionally, you could rattle can it if you wanted.

If it works I would love some of this wax, infact strull do you know what wax they used to restore your clear coat?
I will buy a pot of it if it works. anyone want to buy my pots of dodo juice and zymol waxes so I can buy this new clear coat restoring wax.0
