Hand car wash damage to car

Hi

Can anyone advise where I stand.

Took my car to a hand car wash yesterday on way home, when I got home from having it washed I noticed that the laquer layer on the car had come off in several places, I can only imagine this has been caused by them having their jet wash up too high???

what can I do?

I went back to the garage, but they only lease the space to a couple of guys, they say nothing to do with them, there are not notices to say you have it washed at your own risk, I haven't spoken with the guys directly as yet as they were gone by the time I got back and they didn't open till after I started work.

Going to call back in this evening but not sure what I can do about it other than claim on my own car insurance, what are my rights, do they have to have insurance, what should I be asking for?

Many thanks in advance x

hard to say without seeing the car...might have been a shody paint job that was waiting to peel at the next jet wash

ive been in the paint shop trade for years...id say generaly sound original paint/laquer wont flake off with a jet wash

i think these cheapie roadside imigrant car washes are best avoided really..couldve had a few proper details/valets for what the respray will cost

what can you do? probably not alot, save for a respray and diy next time it needs a wash, chances are the car wash will have a "not our fault" sign up somewhere

Under normal circumstances laquer will not lift from the vehicle, it usually only lifts if it has been subject to a poor repair at some time.

Did the laquer lift on all parts of the vehicle, or only in a certian area?

it is the origional paint work on the car.

laquer lifted on bonnett, parts of rear bumper and parts of front skirt.

was ok before the car went in, feel so fed up, car looks a mess.

have paint and laquer from the volvo garage, is this easy enough to do ? and what is the best way to do this?

    thanks for your advise

and no sign up at all.... surely they must have insurance to cover damage to cars?

going to check with local council see if they have a trading licence or not.....

  • These guys should have public liability insurance if they are operating as a ligitimate company. You need to take pics of the damage, so and see them, and if you get no-where contact trading standards and seek legal advice.
