I'm assuming if you go to their site directly and then switch you still get the cashback.

You will only get the cashback if you click on the link in the article or the link in the blue bar at the top of the page. If you go directly to thei site you will not get the cashback.

It may be OK for you Martin to advocate switching but, what about the thousands of Highlanders who use Scottish Hydro and their Total Control heating systems, it is impossible repeat impossible to switch because no other supplier operates a two meter system!!!

Looks like Scottish Hydro are in "Total Control" then :-)

    Sorry ....I'll get my coat................

Seriously, was this something that people understood when they installed the "Total Control" heating system?
If it was something that was clear and understood when they installed it then I don't think there are any grounds for complaint.

    Or did I misunderstand?
If so then you need to explain a bit more about the system as I don't think most people have heard of it.

What do you want Martin to do in his articles?
Are you looking for some sort of disclaimer to say "Sorry this might not apply to everyone".
What is it that you are after?

We are all being asked to consider switching suppliers, when we installed Total Control 14 years ago switching had not even been thought of, now with costs soaring there are thousands of Hydro customers who just cannot switch, let's just have a bit of publicity about the fact that switching is not available to all consumers.

I know this sounds like a beginners question - but if I switch do I have to cancel mt previous monthly direct debit I paid to my last provider?

To prevent problems I would leave it till your account is clear with them.
    After that yes.

Powergen wrote to me last week offering an Electicity price cap until 2010. When I phoned to sign-up I was told by the operator that I would have to pay an additional £48 per month to do this. This is would double what I pay now so it's hardly any incentive to sign-up.
  • I switched to Scottish Gas in February, having used the comparison sites - looked like I would save some money. I received a bill this morning for over £600 - more than I would pay in a year! For the first time in my life I cannot pay a fuel bill, and I'm worried sick! Can't even get though on the phone to them as they say their system is down for maintenance! Seriously regretting switching - be warned!
  • I recently changed to EDF Energy only to find they are now carging me over double my last tariff.
I signed up on line but their excuse is that as i have an economy seven meter, i am not entitled to the on line tariff. They are now going to change the meter in around three weeks ( i had to organise that myself) and i will be on the more expensive tariff until then.
I complained stating that this was in fact unfair and that no other provider has charged me anything other than the standard domestic tariff regardless of what meter i had. They pretty much told me tough, i am supposed to be a meter expert to ensuer this did not happen and that they would stick by their decision and fight any complaint. I will be paying the more expensive tariff until the meter change.
I contacted Energywatch who are very very helpfull and will be complaining on my behalf. EDF energy stated that they will even fight Energywatch and will not be budging.
I will post the final outcome.
In the meantime i suggest everyone checks the meter they have before switching suppliers, in particular to EDF Energy and reads the small print!
