Is the same true for Orange and Tesco?
looking at the Orange T&Cs it seems they are typically Orange and are limited quite dramatically when compared to o2.PAYG iPhone TermsIf you're connecting or upgrading to a pay as you go iPhone on Orange, you get 12 months' free mobile internet and Wi-Fi. A text will be sent to confirm when the free mobile internet and Wi-Fi offers have been applied (these messages may take up to 24 hours).
A text will also be sent when the offers are due to expire.
If you leave Orange or transfer to pay monthly you can't take this offer with you. The free mobile internet offer only applies in the UK and is capped at 250MB per month, after which standard pay as you go data charges apply.
You can monitor how much data you are using by calling 343.
The free Wi-Fi offer gives you unlimited Wi-Fi at BT openzone hotspots in the UK (to find a hotspot, check out https://www.btopenzone.co.uk).
The offer is also subject to a fair usage limit of 750MB each month. If you go over this limit, we (Orange) may monitor your usage and withdraw the offer from your account. But 750MB is an awful lot to play with. So hopefully it won't come to that.
So it seems with Orange the bundle is added at activation without the need for any top-ups, but is hardly "unlimited".====0 -
I hope this may be of some use.
I got a new (not refurbed) black iPhone 3GS 16Gig from the Carphone Warehouse on the day they were released. I was due an upgrade from O2, which was going to make it around £87.00, but CW then bought back my old Sony P1i for £54.00, so the whole deal cost me £33.00.
They only wanted the phone and the battery, so I then sold all the accessories, case, chargers, headphones etc on eBay for a further £15.
Worth considering if you have something you don't want that came from Carphone Warehouse. If in doubt - do something. (With fond memories of Harry Chapin)0 -

I think I've decided to bite the bullet and buy a PAYG iphone (eep!). I'm on the £20 o2 simplicity tarif, and I'm reluctant to sign up to anything which locks me in as I tend to move abroad a lot, so at least I can terminate simplicity when I want.
Hi
Happy new year to every one!
I think it is the best IPhone deal. IPhone 3GS 16GB PAYG costs £440.40, SIM only costs £19.58 per month, 12 months contract (can be cancelled anytime) package includes: 800 UK minutes + 1600 UK texts + Unlimited WEB bolt-on each month.
Then, 18 months overall cost for 800 UK minutes + 1600 UK texts + Unlimited WEB bolt-on:
£440.40 + £19.58x18 = £792.84
18 months overall cost for O2 pay monthly 600 minutes + 500 texts + unlimited data & WIFI:
£184.98 + £34.26 x 18 = £801.66
Not only the PAYG + SIM only deal is slightly cheaper, it also has 200 more minutes and 1100 more texts. Though it has not included unlimited wifi, but who cares! And because SIM only is a contract deal, you can still ask O2 to unlock your IPhone for free.
To get cashback, Apple online store offers 3% for all retails. Carphone Warehouse DOES NOT offer cashback for IPhone.
So I believe O2 PAYG + SIM only is the best deal. Martin, what's your view on this? What about everyone else?
Thanks

I would wait for the Google Nexus One and compare with the IPhone. I think the Google phone (Android 2.1) could finally be a serious competitor to the pretenders. (Palm Pre, Nokia N97, Nokia N900, Sony Ericsson Satio/Aino/Xperia X10) Then again, it appears that there will be a new IPhone this summer so the 3GS will definitely be cheaper at that time.0

Got my iphone 3gs from phones4u on thursday
600 mins
500 texts
unlimited data and wifi for £35 a month plus a bit extra for full insurance cover.

Hi everyone... I'm considering getting the following from Tesco:
32GB 3G S
300 mins OR 600 texts
Phone cost: £407
Contract cost: £20 per month (12 month contract)
Total cost: £647
My questions are:
- is this a good deal?
- do I have to go to a physical Tesco store to get this, or can I buy online?
- I am currently with Virgin Mobile on PAYG - does this mean my mobile telephone number will change?
- I had waited for the January sales, wondering if anything better would come along, but I don't see it happening as yet? Is there anything I am missing? Should I wait a bit longer? (I appreciate I could wait until the next iPhone is out in the summer but don't really wait that long...)
If you can help with any or all of these questions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.0 -
Sorry... one other question...
- how do I work out whether the reception would be OK at my home/work?0 -

Get a Tesco or O2 (tesco use O2's network) pay as you go SIM and try that in your current phone (if unlocked) or ask friends/family/colleagues on O2 to check reception in your home/at work.0 -
Could someone please clarify....if my service provider is o2 but I bought the contract and phone with the carphone warehouse, am I am o2 customer or not? I know when I tried to query my bill a few months ago I had to go to carphone warehouse not o2. I am just wondering if I have any bargaining power with either o2 or carphone as my contract is ending in Feb and I am considering an iphone....0

Hi folks
Am coming to the end of my O2/Carphone Warehouse contract on the 30th Dec. I have a few questions:
- The iPhone is now mine. Can I swap it for any old SIM card ie PAYG or another contract from another provider?
- Do I have to get it unlocked to move to another provider?
- I am anxious to save money and get the best deal possible, obviously. What general advice can you guys give me on what I should do given that I like using my iPhone so want to keep it?
Many thanks !
