  • How does an iphone work with an o2 simplicity simcard?

A friend is willing to sell me their iphone 3g which is now out of contract, and I have o2 simplicity sim with web bolt on which I tried in the phone. The calling worked fine, but I could not connect to any data service. The error message came up as : "Could not activate cellular data network. You are not subscribed to a cellular data service".
I have no problems accessing data service with my current phone, so I'm guessing the problem is with the iphone setup.

Can anybody help me please? Thanks

What settings do you have in `Cellular Data Network`?
  • Ah, don't know- don't have the phone here now. Will have to try again and have a look. Do you think thoses are the settings that need to be changed? If so, what to?!! Was so disappointed when the phone didn't work straight away! Others have had success though, hopefully I should be able to work it out!

    Thanks for your reply

I have a 3GS and a simplicity sim, seem to remember having to change some settings.

Think it was these, but can`t be sure.......

Cellular Data settings on mine (accessed via `settings` > `general` > `network` > `cellular data network` (bear in mind it might be different on yours)... are

    APN mobile.o2.co.uk
    Username vertigo
    Password password
  • Thanks for that. Will try that. Is there a password associated with my sim that I need do you think?

Does anyone else remember having to change these settings? Bit afraid of screwing it up?!

can`t screw it up, just record what they are now and you can always change it back.
  • Thanks again!

    Will give it a go!
  • For those who desperatly want an Iphone but are stuck in an o2 contract for another few months, heres a good way of justifying taking out another one!

Basically, I bought the 16gb 3GS today on pay monthly with 5 months remaining on my phone in an o2 store. I had the option to buy it out (funny, as when I originally rang o2 a few months ago they said it wasn't possible) but it wasn't worth losing the minutes for & the initial outlay for the Iphone was enough. I would be spending £55 a month on the two contracts, which is my penance for taking the plunge! :rotfl:

Came home & had a brainwave. Phoned o2 & asked if I could reduce the monthly amount to the next lowest tarrif on my old phone. They happily said I could to £15 p/m which I was so suprised about as I thought as my contract was already heavily discounted, this wouldn't be possible. She also said I can ring back once a month & reduce it again until I get to £5 as I receive £10 off my line rental. Fantastic!

Come off the phone feeling a very happy girl! Loving o2.

And what do you think of the Iphone 3Gs was it worth the effort?
A problem shared is a problem multiplied. :o

Absoulutly, in every way possible. I upgraded from the iPod Touch & was toying with the idea of buying off Ebay the 3g but thought as it was still a big investment for me, I might aswell go the whole hog. Its immense! :D
