  • Been into an O2 store this morning to look at getting the Iphone4 and then popping another sim but they said that they will only give it to me with a £10 extra Pay as you Go chip, I dont need that and wont even sell the phone to me and Im an O2 customer :(

    Any ideas?
  • Does anyone know where I can get the best deal on an iPhone 4 16 or 32 outright? I know o2 does them for 495 and 595 but I'm hoping with some cashback somewhere along the line I'll be able to get it closer to 450/550 or even 400/500! I know Tesco does them for 479/569 but they are out of stock. Who else sells them without a contract (eBay I guess!).

My thinking is to go with the o2 £15 12 month simplicity as I have an employee deal that gives me £100 back, so over 12 months it will cost me £80 (+ £495 for 16gb). So 575 for 12 months and another 6 months is 665. The standard o2 18 month deal works out at 769(229+18*30) but on that one I can get £125 back so costs me 644 over 18 months.

So over 18 months there's only £21 in it so if I can get my hands on a 16gb for say 470 or less, then I'm slightly better off and I'm only on a 12 month contract instead of 18.

Thanks. Guess there must be a lot of luck involved, unless they call back based on expected contract length/value - what contract deal did you go for and did you indicate to them when you first called what length and size contract you were interested in?

I think you are right, there could be an element of luck.

I just explained that i'd registered on the Tesco website 2 months ago and been calling the local store daily. The guy took my number and said he'd see what he could do. It wasn't until he called back that I stated what I was after - 12 mth, 16Gb, £35 pm.

    Hope this helps!

Tesco Extra in Cardiff (off Western Ave) have stock in (both 32 & 16's - they just had a delivery of 16GB versions only apparantly).. I'd give them a bell though before you go (to any locals).

Calling the 0800 number, earlier the chap advised me they get a handful in a day, and allocate them on people who are "ready" to buy them - i.e. they give all the costs up front (in my case £370 -phone + first monthly payment) and make sure that's ok first.
  • I've gone the "sim free" route and ordered mine from Apple. I have to wait up to 3 weeks for delivery, but at least I know my iPhone is on its way.

  • Tesco use the O2 network. I believe that on the iPhone it even says you are connected to O2 rather than Tesco so if you get a good signal from O2, you should be fine.

It did say you were connected to O2 when using Tesco but after the 4.1 update it now says Tesco. Not that it matters:)
  • I called Tesco yesterday and the lady I spoke to wouldn't even entertain the idea of taking my details and giving me a call back when they got stock in. Called again today and they offered to call me back without me even mentioning it. Must just be all down to who answers your call.

I called again a few days ago and spoke to 'Chris'. He took my details and said he would see what he could do and would get back to me on Thursday. He was true to his word, extremely helpful, and my iPhone 4 is now on its way! :j
