Ouch.. I only just realised O2 are charging customers an additional £15 per month minimum if you want to use internet tethering!! (and that only gets you 3GB usage)
I see online there are methods to unofficially side step this but why should I have to... arghhhhh!!0 -

My thoughts exactly. How they can advertise it as 'unlimited data' yet then charge £15 a month extra for just 3GB is disgusting.0 -

Yes I know that thanks! I don't agree with it though... it's like my home broadband provider saying I have unlimited broadband but they'll charge me an extra £15 a month if I want to link my Playstation to it...0 -

It reads on the O2 website that you get free internet for 12 months and can top up £10-14pm to get 500 minutes. So if you are not interested in texting and can buy the phone outright, looks like a good deal, at least for 12 months....
Or am I missing something.
So is tethering free if on contract? If it is, what is the speed like when tethered to a laptop compared to using a broadband dongle?
I have a BB dongle and being able to ditch that might make it more affordable to go with a contract.
If sticking with PAYG, what about the `Visual Voiucemail` `Call Merging` and changing APN settings, any of these worth taking into consideration.0 -

As mentioned above, on contract, tethering is £15 a month for a 3GB allowance...0 -

It's not quite the same. You won't chew through nearly as much data on your iPhone as you would do on your computer. The 'unlimited' data on the iPhone will be based on the notion that most people will go through relatively little data due to the limitations of the device. Meanwhile, your home ISP will have already factored in that you will be using data heavy devices, and have built their packages to that spec, so hooking up your Playstation wouldn't cost any extra as it's likely to use much less data than you would do on a PC.0 -

I bought a 3g pay and go iphone last year using pretty much the same reasoning. I can honestly say I have never missed visual voicemail, in fact I'm not even totally sure what it is lol. And I'm sure I can live without the other things too. Out of everything, it's the 12 months free data that I have used the most.
Oh, and changing the settings takes two seconds, even for a thicko like me!:D

My 3G connection is faster than my home broadband... so what do you think I'm going to use the most?!
Also not sure what you mean by 'the limitations' of the iphone... from which you can directly download music etc through itunes.... lots of data usage0 -
The iphone does limit you to a max of 10MB per file i believe0
