An iPhone is a pretty expensive device to entrust a 10 year old with, the SIM free price is £419 even for a new 8gb 3GS. What I will say however is you can pick up a used 16gb 3gs quite cheaply at the moment, around the £300 mark for a very good condition one, which can run the newest software. It's entirely up to you, but it's a lot to lose.

My son has an ipod touch and loves it they are great and a lot cheaper than an iphone, and you can get a lot of great phones without spending a lot.

nontechie - thanks for finding that out. Does it say that on the Quidco site otherwise Quidco are continuing to mislead potential customers. I'm still waiting for £105 from Quidco on a previous Vodafone contract. Don't mind taking the risk with Quidco for £5 - £10 but not £100.

The listing on the site is, IMHO, very unclear and misleading. They should state that the offer excludes vodafone sim only iphone contracts, rather than simply making a general reference to sim only contracts. To be fair, the prompt email response to my query was entirely clear.

I have checked with quidco who state that the £100 cashback does not include iphone sim only contracts. Your cost is thus £740 for 12 months

Quidco have also stated thst at present there are no iphone cashbacks at all.

Thats very interesting because I checked with quido and they gave me a completely different answer. They said that any sim only deal (irrespective of whether its iphone or not) will give £100 cash back on £20/month for 12 months.

    So now im really confused.

Was informed today to be told they were geeting No stock where I live tomorrow as it had only been allocated to the top 100 stores !!
  • Hi Whiterabbit

£240 is a VERY good price for the 3GS - O2 would offer £232 just to recycle it. If it's scratch free, out of contract and works well, you may want to buy the phone just to sell it on eBay!!

I think that with the pressure on sales at the mo, you may want to go for the 3GS and a rolling 1-month contract for now and see how you get on with it. If you like the phone and the features it gives you, you can upgrade later on once everyone has adjusted their prices to compete with the 3 network!!

The 3GS will probably still sell for around £350 near Christmas, meaning that you will have made enough money to cover the initial cost of the iPhone 4 on a contract if that's the way you want to go.

Fab, thanks for that!! Now found out that it's actually £280 he wants for it and reckons that because it's white it's more sought after if I choose to sell it (? :undecided). I guess it's still a good idea to see if I like it first before I invest in a new one, so think I'll go for it! :)

    Thanks again!!

  • Does anyone know if the 3GS models have been reduced in price now because of the release of the 4?

just got mine, have kept my O2 "loyalty" discount so instead of £45 a month I'm only paying £30, delighted with that.

He is having you on, the black ones are more popular as more people want them, so when it comes to selling it you'll have more people interested.
