Hi,
Quick question, my o2 iPhone contract is up for renewal from the 30th June, is there anything stopping me from negotiating a better tariff/deal on a htc or other smart phone (try to get the phone for free and get decent minutes etc) and then selling the new phone, getting cashback for my existing iPhone and then using the cash to fund a new sim free iPhone 4???
Just seems to me that 02 are willing to negotiate on retaining customers for most phones but not the iphone so it might be a chance to get a better deal??
Thanks0 -

Hi there
Let's see if I've got this right:
1. Sell new HTC phone - say £150 - £200
2. Sell old iPhone - say £200 - £250
This gives you somewhere between £350 and £450 towards the cost of an iPhone, so you still have to pay £50 to £150 just to get the 16Gb phone, plus you have to wait until you've sold your old phones and for there to be stock in the UK again before getting your hands on the iPhone 4.
Alternatively, you could:
1. Pay £200 towards the cost of a new iPhone 4
2. Sell your old iPhone for £200 - £250
This way, you get the phone quicker and the sale of your old phone actually covers the cost of the new one. Either way, you are stuck in a 24 or 18 month contract. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
How are we all planning on getting our hands on the phone Thursday??????
Im not holding out much hope!!!0 -
I'm fortunate to have a confirmed reservation with Apple for an iPhone4 plus I've been an O2 customer for several years. Just debating whether to sell the iPhone as soon as I get it (for a profit hopefully) then 'upgrade' to a new iPhone4 with O2 on Thursday. I've spoken with O2 retentions and obtained a PAC number - there's no deals to be had on the new iPhone, certainly not at the present time with all the 'hype' going on.
Problem is, the best tariff is a 12 month SIM only deal with Vodafone together with the £100 cashback via Quidco.0 -
I think it's still cheaper in the long run to buy the phone outright (£500-600) and then get a SIM only deal for around £15 a month, even better if you can get £100 cashback like I did last time. Only tied into a 12 month contract then.0

i am thinking of the following once my vodafone contract ends in 2 weeks, so please advise me if i could do better:
buy a 16Gb iphone from apple for £500
then buy sim only from vodafone for £20/month for 12 months (getting £100 cashback from quidco) giving me 600 min and 1GB data
Total for 12 months after cashback is £640

Have you checked that Voda will supply a micro sim on sim only ?
Orange and now Tesco are saying they won't supply mirco's unless you but the i4 from them ?
Also you'll have to port your number somewhere if you're changing contract with upgrading (if you want to keep your number) as a network won't move it over.0 -
the sim only deal is called iphone sim deal so i am assuming that they will supply a microsim if it is intended for iphone. I would love to keep my phone number but i think that will be difficult if i go down that route.0

Hi there,
I wonder if you guys can help me figure out the data cap on O2...
I'm going to get an iPhone 4 (on O2) for my birthday at the end of July (very generous partner!) but don't want to get locked into the new data cap. I'm currently on a Simplicity tariff on O2 with a nokia 6300.
If I change to a iPhone O2 tariff now (ie before the 24th), and then get the iPhone at the end of July, will I be able to keep the old (ie "unlimited") data? And will I be able to use the iPhone tariff on my 6300?
When I get them to swap my SIM to a microSim, will I change to the new cap, or keep the old one?
Thanks very much for your help!

If you want to keep your number then just get a free payg sim from one of the other networks, port to them (Orange will let you leave after a day). Get the pac for that, start your new sim only, and port back in again. Only takes a few days and job done !0
