I'm looking to switch to Vodafone from O2 on Thursday for the iPhone 4, yet I need to pay up the last few months on my O2 Simplicity 12 month contract. If I kept my O2 contract running when applying for Vodafone in store, would if affect my ability to be accepted on Vodafone? Or should I cancel with O2 before applying with Vodafone? I'm just worried about selling my current phone, Vodafone rejecting me and not having a backup, being scuppered with no phone. Seen as I'm 18 with only two SIM only mobile contracts on my credit history, one rolling with T-Mobile then replaced by a 12 month O2 Simplicity.

As long as your credit score is good enough, you shouldn't have any problems. I normally overlap contracts, does me no harm.

As far as I can see both Orange and 02 prices are the same - what a suprise!!

    24 month contract

    35 quid per month

    New I phone 4 16g- £119

Is it worth paying the additional for the 32g handset? what else does this offer apart from the obvious extra capacity?

I'm up for renewal with 02, 18 month 3g contract ran out recently and i've been on simplicity for a month. Now.. looking at the great spreadsheet that was produced and linked on another thread (Thanks!) I think my thoughts about going with the 600 mins ULTD text 500 mb contract... now I'm wondering if I go the retentions route but with a different tactic.

My ideal contract would involve the 32gb iphone 4 (though if it's worth it i'd settle for the 16 as that's been enough for me), 500/600 mins, unlimited text, and unlimited data (yes I know, grr)

Do you reckon I could negotiate a better contract by going for a 3gs... then selling my 3g and the new 3gs.. and buying the 4 outright?

What potential pitfalls are there? I haven't read anything about the video calling being another other than via wifi, which suggests to me that it's regardless of contract and only dependant on each party using an iphone 4. I assume o2 would swap my sim for a micro sim too?
    Thanks

Yes you could probably get the 3GS for free. But you'll not be able to negotiate on the Iphone 4. Yes they'll give you a Microsim.

I got a 3gs on Thursday which I can take back if I want and then get the 4g.
Having got a email from O2 they say that they are only allowing their own customers the 4g till end of July, so how hard will it be to get one online or from a high street store!!
Now i hav an iphone and cant bear to be without one lol!! Are we all going to have to wait????

........... I figure buy cost of 3GS elsewhere is going to drop with 4G released? Next stage - disconnections... wish me luck!;)[/QUOTE]

Called disconnections this morning. They offered me the same deal - £45 per mth and free 3GS, or pay £89 up front and get same deal for £35 per mth for 18mts. Mentioned other better offers I'm considering, been customer +7yrs, friend (you guys posting here mainly) has 32 GB 3GS on less than £30 per mth and they called him a liar. Playing hardball, not long to go... what do i do!?!?! Reconditioned phones he said same deal but fiver cheaper. Do you literally have to ask for PAC to be offered recond. at cut price?
  • Hi,

Now that all but 1 of the main operators have released their prices, I have tried to find the cheapest way to buy the iphone over 24 months (thats how long I normally have a phone for).

I thought Id share what I have done as I believe this is a very good deal.

Vodafone do the sim only iphone contract for £20 per month including 600 mins, unlimited texts and 1GB of data and 1GB of wifi. This is by far the best data deal out there unless three comes out with something better but I doubt it as their current so called UNLIMITED data is capped at 500MB per month. But its EVEN BETTER when you find that quidco.com are giving you £100 cashback if you go through them on the 12month sim only deal. Now if you take this out and buy the 32GB phone outright for £599 from apple (less if you go through quidco with 3% cashback) then you save £100 over the 2 years on buying the phone on a 2 year contract at £35 per month plus £219 handset charge.

    Happy days! :j
  • Regarding my above post - I have just received my tracking from quidco and it states that my expected cashback is £16 - I have queried it with them and will let you know what the outcome is. I think the cashback builds up over 3 months on this deal

I actually doubt there is going to be much of a drop on the 3gs price for some time, remember Apple have not discontinued it, it is still available in the new range for £419 (and now only with 8GB of storage).

  • don't ask me how it happened but it did, last october i upgraded with vodaphone on a 24 month contract with a nokia e71, had intended to get a blackberry but the assistant reccommended the e71 as apparently they are exactly the same!!! but the e71 looks sleeker so i went for it, it's nothing like a blackberry and from day one i never liked, anyway managed to recycle it whilst it still had some value and am back to using an archaic handset but would like to get a new handset and was thinking about the iphone. this is where i need some help as i am not sure the best way to go about it, can i just purchase either an unlocked or vodaphone handet and insert my current sim? obviously i can't get out my contract and am paying £35 a month so don't want to take out another contract any suggestions???

You say that the Vodafone contract is "by far the best data deal out there". O2 offer a 12 month SIM-only contract with 600 minutes, unlimited texts, and Unlimited Data and Wi-Fi. How does this differ from Vodafone's? What am I missing?
