Slenderkitten - sorry if I'm being slow however I can't see the handset prices on the link above (other than for business tariffs) ?

phnormal - re the iOS4 software, the release date and details are included within the recent Keynote Presentation in the US by Apple:-

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/wwdc10/index.html (its about 3/4 of the way through).

For some reason this link isn't on the UK Apple site.

Hello there. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I was wondering, what is the best way to go about getting an iPhone 3gs, as an upgrade for the best posible deal. I am due to upgrade on the 15th of July. I rung up today to enquire about the iPhone 3gs and was told if I wanted one Iwould have to pay £45pm over a 2 year contract. £45pm is just extortionate in my eyes.
I am not interested in a 2 year contract, 18 months is a bit too long in my eyes, but will do me fine.

I read a few posts back about people getting the 3gs on an 18mth contract for £28pm. How would I be best wording myself to achieve a similar deal? Bartereing isnt one of my strong points, but seeing as money is getting tighter these days I need to improve my haggling skills.

Ask for an upgrade to a refurb 3gs for free, they will say no, ask for your pac code and you will get put through to retentions, thems the guys that can offer the real deals, you cant get a bargain on a new one but the refurbs are as good as new

With initial Apple pre-orders sold out the new iPhone is appearing on eBay for £995 or best offers !!! For those with existing pre-orders there's now a dilemma - do you sell and wait for another ??

Doesn't meant that the other retailers will be sold out on that day, just a load of jokers hoping someone gullible enough will buy them!

    Hi

We currently have a really naf phone, and I mean naff!. We have always been on Tesco PAYG but I have decided that I am having an iphone! Do you think prices will come down a bit for the 3Gs (thinking of buying from tesco on payg tariff) OR will iphone 4 be not that more expencive, Oooo what should we do Advise and thought would be great.

    Thanks guys :D

    Thanks for reply :)

We have never had a contract phone so after looking on here thing PAYG is prob the better option for us. I know its more money to pay out in one go but then at least we will know where we are so to speak. We were prepared to pay £440 for 3g s (Tesco) but wanted to wait & see what price the iphone 4 comes out at then see if 3g s comes down abit as if it doesnt come down by much and the iphone 4 is not far off £440 price then Im guessing we should get the 4. I see Tesco have iphone 4 coming soon but doesnt say if its giong to be on PAYG??

So it doesn't look like I'll be able to buy the iphone4 on PAYG any time soon, lack of NHS discount isn;t surprising.
Funds are not permitting as previously thought, so.....

    do I

    a) order the £20 12 month simplicity sim now and use it in my current carp Sony Ericcson phone (will have to get it unlocked as I'm currently on orange), then hope I can get the iphone4 on PAYG asap (scrimp and save, sell everything I own on ebay)

    or

    b) bite the bullet and upgrade with orange to the £35, 24 month contract, phone cost £119, which I can afford next week.

I'm really not too bothered about getting the phone straightaway as I still reckon I'll get it before anyone else I know but do I risk/have the hassle of switching to a cheaper tariff, different network etc when there may still be a chance I won't be able to afford a PAYG model this side of xmas?

    Ooh, what to do.....?
  • My screen name says it all, so sorry if my questions are dumb.

Using O2 as an example, I have noticed that the new 12 month sim only tariffs are £5 per month dearer than the current 3GS ones and have a data limit, whereas the 3GS ones don't. Would it be possible to get a 3GS contract, then buy a 4 handset and do a sim transfer, preserving the benefits of the better 3GS contract ? Does this make sense ?

Also, as the new 4 has a ''micro sim'' how can someone use a non-iphone sim only contract with a 4 ?

Finally, why should anyone get a sim-only iphone contract if the standard smartphone contract is cheaper ? What's special about the iphone contract and what would we lost in functionality etc if the cheaper standard contract is used ?

Yes that is possible. I have the old Iphone simplicity tariff and will be doing the same.

Yes you need a microsim, and it can be got here just fill in the form when you have your iphone 4.

The Iphone has features unique to it, Conference calling and Visual Voicemail. They don't work without the iphone tariff.

But if you can live without those two facilities (fancy voicemail and talking to more than 1 person at a time) then there is no difference.
