Nope, nothing on the iphone front. Got my pac code details though0

Hi everyone,
Just a quick question.
I'm currently on Vodafone but they seem to be useless with the whole cheap iphone deals. However, my dad is on o2 and has been for quite some years, would it be possible for him to ''upgrade'' and get a good deal with an iphone but have my number? Or if anyone knows how i could make it work, i would be very grateful.
Desperately want an iphone now after waiting for quite a long time!:T0 -

Wow, I rang for my PAC and used the Iphone as an excuse so they wouldnt give me a sales pitch, cos I knew they didnt do them, but he offered one straight away. :rotfl:I turned it down as the deal wasnt anywhere near as good as the o2 upgrades being offered and as a 3 customer for five years I wanted a better deal and tbh I really wanted to leave 3. maybe its only certain dept that offer them ?0 -

He could upgrade and give you the iPhone.
You could ask for your pac code (to move your number), and port it to his acc, but then he'd lose his number as you can't port in AND keep the existing number...0 -

Thanks! Hmm, so he couldnt open up a new account and get a good deal or anything simple like that? I can't see him wanting to lose his number and thats a bit too complicated for him to do!:T0 -
I'm very grateful to everyone for the various posts and have tried to read and absorb. I'm a new customer (at present with Vodafone payas you go) so don't entirely understand everything. Was thinking of getting a pay as you go iphone and then the simplicity sim as that seems cheapest. But was looking to see what I could do via Quidco and saw that the Apple store sells the 3GS locked to O2 and then says 'An iPhone purchased at the Apple Online Store with the Pay & Go service from O2 can be used only with an O2 SIM. iPhone Pay & Go from O2 includes 12 months unlimited 3G data and Wi-Fi access. Unlimited Wi-Fi is available at any of the Wi-Fi hotspots from our partners The Cloud or BT Openzone.' Somewhere else it said you just needed to top up by £10 to activate this. So is this everything the iphone offers except call time and texts, or am I missing something here? Many apologies if this is a totally idiotic question but I hope someone can explain! Thank you.

Hi, I am relatively new to the retentions thread so please be gentle...
I am nearing the end of my contract with Orange (April 11th) I roughly pay about £40 ish a month with unlimited texts, I would like an Iphone 3gs 16g, don't mind if it's a refurb, but would really like to be paying about £30 ish a month.
can anyone suggest the best time to call retentions and push for a good deal(if at all possible) should I do it anytime now or would you suggest leaving it to run dry.
I have tried to read back as far as I can on this thread, but end up more confused as most of the deals seem to be with O2, any suggestions would be greatly received, I am not opposed to leaving Orange if I was to be offered a better deal, I have been with them for about 6 yrs now, but dog eat dog and all I just want a good deal, thanks ahead of time.Thriftkitten

I'd start with getting Dad to ring O2 and add you to his account in some way, basically give you permission to access his account which means he doesn't have to mess about too much. Then see if you can open a second account attached to his (also in his name) and port your number in perhaps to a SIMplicity as it's cheap but does count as a contract (PAYG accounts don't get upgrades). Then leave it a month and then try to upgrade the SIMplicity using your dad's goodwill. Probably would have to leave both accounts in his name, would he be ok with that?
TBH according to the article on the mail MSE site the cheapest way to get an iPhone is Tesco, might be a lot simpler than mucking about with O2!! You will only get an 02 deal IF they have refurbs in on the day you ring, you might have to wait awhile.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

I am also with Orange and read quite a bit of the thread over the last few days. Basically you won't get a deal with Orange, they don't have refurbs as they haven't had the iPhone very long, and apparently Apple set the tariffs so there is nothing to be had.I came to the conclusion it was time to bail out!
I rang Orange retentions for my PAC code and got the same as everyone else - no deal. Tesco is the cheapest way to get an iPhone if you can afford to pay out quite a bit up front?
