We have recently applied for and been awarded tax credit but, when the award came through a week ago, we did not get the claim backdated for the three months that we expected.

We have been trying to call the helpline for a whole week at random times between 8am and 8pm and simply cannot get through. No matter what choice we take in the menu, we end up being told that they are busy and we should call back some other time.

Does anyone know a secret number or a back door method to actually speaking with someone?

We have attempted to phone on over 80 occasions so far this week

See my post two before yours. Try it - it does actually work.

When I claimed, I was told to ask specifically for the claim to be backdated in a separate letter included with the filled form, which is what I did.

I got through last week to them on Thursday about 1 pm, calling the regular number (I did not see this thread), after spending 40 mins on phone. This was 4th day in a row trying to get through.

My sister tells me she has got through twice and ask for a claim pack, but nothing has arrived. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, this may sould like a daft question but can we write and ask for a claim pack?
  • i have requested 2 claim forms :/

i was told they could take upto 10 days to arrive....waited the 10 days nothing....rang them back and sending another out still nothing...they still have a few days left lol

i went to my nearest tax office to ring them and got through within 5 mins ! also i can go get a claim form from nearest tax office if i make an appointment so they can check my ID and to see if i am eligible to claim.

if it is not here by tomorrow i will be going to tax office for an appointment

I accidentally dialled the wrong number tonight and got straight through (well, on hold, but it's better than being cut off!)

  • Just rang that number and yes got straight through after trying constantly all day. Women told me it was the overseas nu,ber, played dumb and said I accidently pressed a 6 instead of 9. Amazing how fast they pick up I think they need to redirect some calls.

Angelcakes I wish I had thought of that!!!!!

I finally got through at 2.45pm, was on hold for nearly 10 minutes but eventually got a human at the other end! She said she might not be able to amend my claim today and that I might have to call again next week  I begged not to be put through that again! Thankfully she listened, and I got things sorted.
