Oh jed, I hope your granddad gets better soon, love and hugs to you all.
My grandson is lactose intolerant as well as a few other things, it seems to be getting more comon all of a sudden??

Thank you. The problem is getting the hospital to actually tell what is wrong with him. When you ask they say that you need to talk to a doctor when they do their rounds which are in the morning but visitors aren't allowed in at that time. They won't give information over the phone and my poor grandma doesn't understand what they say all the time!

My health visitor says it's very common now - she said it was due to the different diet we have and the way milk is processed?

  • Hi
Can I increase my limit for the August challenge, I very studiply hadn't realised it was a five week month!! and when I updated my signature this morning I realise I only had £60 left on the £260. Increasing it to £300 please, which if I'm honest I am going to really struggle to do.

Time to get reading for next weeks meal plan.

    Thanks
The good you do comes back to you.

  • I just made buckwheat wraps to use for sandwiches instead of the very expensive and full of additives Freefrom gluten-free pittas that I usually get from Mr T. I had one with salad and feta for my lunch and it was delicious - 4 probably only cost about 50p to make.

Me and OH move into our new flat next Friday, if the solicitors all do their thing in time. So I'm trying to hang onto £20 so we can have a takeaway that evening - I can't imagine trying to cook amidst all the boxes and chaos...!

Afternoon all, just popping in to say hi. Have been quite surprised with this challenge actually, i have spent £36.96 since the 6th of August, which may not sound like a lot, but when my budget is £125 for the month, its quite a bit. Its not the amount i have spent on actual groceries that has surprised me, more the amount that i spend on a bottle of pop due to forgetting to take it out with me. However the fridge is fairly full now, in fairness though, i have had £15 of free shopping due to mystery shops, otherwise my amount would be much higher. Instead my cupboards etc are much fuller for less!!

Well, here I am on the 15th day of August and I'm all spent up!

Not to panic, though. I went out and bought everything at the start of the month and I've at least a month's supplies here, even loo roll and washing up liquid... the only thing we're going to be short on is the fresh vegetables, but I do have frozen ones ready, plus tinned tomatoes and sweetcorn so I suppose that'll have to do. I have some potatoes coming ready - about 4 meals worth, and then that's it. We'll cope - we'll have to!

well done to everyone, it's all very inspiring
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D
  • Just back from our fruit & veg man EL - picked up 3 bags of peppers (2xred & 2x orange) for a £1 each so will roast & freeze them. Umpteen bananas and aubergines much cheaper than asda:j .
Gone over budget now though and still 2 weeks to go:eek: . Got plenty of food in so must now concentrate on using what we've got.

Presume you are trying local freecycle for freezer? Wouldn't the electrics need to be kept dry if kept outside?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Just spent £2.30 on my free range eggs as I don't get these from Mr T! And I forgot that you need them to make toad in the hole!!
Just made some more bread and a huge batch of twinks (just for the kids as I am on WeightWatchers ;) )
    Will update sig

  • OH went to Waitrose and bought ingredients to turn our surplus HG cabbage into Kimchee - spent £5.42, so it's going to be a bit nail-biting this week as to whether I'll stay within budget. Slightly annoying, as he got English radishes instead of daikon ones, so that was a waste, and of course lovely but expensive Waitrose. I could have done it for half that at Mr T and the local asian shop for the daikon I reckon. Anyone know anything interesting to do with two bags of radishes?!

Hiya jediteacher - I'm a junior doc - I would say if you want info on your grandpa, what you need to do is ask the nurses to gain his consent to share the info with you - otherwise they can't say anything! Once his consent is documented in the notes you might find things over the phone a bit easier! We don't keep tight lipped to be difficult, just to respect peoples privacy :)

P.s. There should be a junior doctor on the ward all the time - ward rounds are generally morning and afternoon if needed but theres always a junior floating around doing bloods etc all day. Just need to find them!

    L xx
