Vodafone change T&C's (Call charges) - Possible contract get-out??
Just got the following letter from Vodafone along with my bill this morning:
So what do we think to that then?
Is that a green light for me to cancel my contract and keep my N95 8GB, the contract began in March and is 18 months!
Thoughts? Advice?
For the record.. I do regularly ring numbers like these as I don't have a landline so I doubt I'd have any problems RE: having not used said numbers before.
From 1 September our call charges will be changing. And to help you know exactly where you stand we've put it all down in black and white.
Don't worry, your monthly price plan isn't changing - your monthly cost, inclusive minutes and inclusive texts will remain the same. It just means that some calls made outside your inclusive minutes will now be charged at new prices.
The table below shows which calls will be effected
New charges
Minimum call charge outside inclusive minutes: 15p per minute
Calls beginning with 05, 080, 084, 0870: 20p per minute
Calls beginning with 0871: 35p per minute
As your monthly price plan isn't changing, these small changes shouldn't affect you too much, so there's nothing for you to do. Life doesn't come much simpler than that.

I think if you can show that on your current usage your bills will increase by more than 10% above RPI (mind you, RPI is pretty high now) you should have a watertight case to cancel.
At any rate you will have a leg to stand on as the changes do pose you a material disadvantage, although they have worded the letter quite nicely as if it doesn't.0 -
Dear Sir / Madam,
I have today, along with my bill from your company, received a small card notifying me of some changes to charges on my contract. The notification is worded as follows:
“From 1 September our call charges will be changing. And to help you know exactly where you stand we've put it all down in black and white.
Don't worry, your monthly price plan isn't changing - your monthly cost, inclusive minutes and inclusive texts will remain the same. It just means that some calls made outside your inclusive minutes will now be charged at new prices.

I have no interest in discussing the reasons for these changes; I have today called your customer services number at 11am to do so and was met with a total lack of any information. The customer service advisor, whose name was *****, informed me that she could not even tell me what the current charges for the above numbers are. She was also unable to confirm the changes that were to be set in place.
This is a clear and significant change to the terms and conditions of the agreed contract between us. Subsequently, as the aggrieved party to these changes, I wish to terminate the contract immediately and with no penalty charges.
Please write to me immediately to confirm the termination of my contract.
Yours faithfully

Any tips / pointers on how I can improve on that before sending it?0 -
i rang about this and wanted confirmation from them but no-one would give a definite answer0

When I called about the letter, the woman I spoke to basically had very little knowledge of it and as stated in my draft letter.. couldnt even answer the simple question of "what is the current charge for calling an 0845 number?"0

I have similar issues. Different 0844 and 0871 numbers charge at different rates and in the past I've found it impossible to find out the charges for particular numbers and 084 numbers in general.0

anyone had any luck with this, going to one of the stores sometime this week to see0

your original contract may have a clause where it says they reserve the right to vary the terms. If you are regularly using more than your minute allowance, why don't you use this as a pretext to get more minutes instead? worth a try maybe.0

I'm still awaiting a response to my letter
Anyone else doing anything about this?0
