  • I think I shall call this one 'tall and interesting'

Tall is the holy grail as far as I'm concerned! Alongside the other requirements (ability to make me laugh being number one on the list)! I want to be able to wear heels!! If anybody knows where all the tall men are can you point some in my direction?? ;)

Hello everyone! Are we all having a good week? xx

Hi there, this is a great thread and I'd like to join you all if I may?

I'm 35 (almost 36, ) and am a single parent to my gorgeous son who's just turned 2. I've been on my own since my ex left me in the lurch when I was pregnant and at the moment I probably have just under 6k of 'real' debt on 2 credit cards, plus about the same debt on a student loan, which I defer every year as I don't earn enough to have to start paying it off. I don't get any maintenance so we live off my salary and a bit of working tax credits, so I suppose that really we are doing ok!

I'm pretty fortunate in that I have my own house (transferred into my sole name when ex left) but I want to move closer to my parents so it's currently on the market. The bad thing is the houses near to them are more expensive than they are where I am, so not only will I have to downsize in terms of size of house but I'm going to have to increase my mortgage to do it, which isn't ideal.

I agree that being single, you have no-one to share things with and all bills are your responsibility, but then it's better to be single than with someone who spends money like water and puts random, ridiculous things on credit cards (yes, ex, I mean you!).

Plus I'm sure we will all be a big support to each other on here. :T

    CC x

I've taken the plunge and joined plenty of fish! Not sure of the etiquette.

Is it rude not to reply to people that send you a message? I don't want to end up engaging with folk I don't really want to but is a "thanks but no thanks" necessary??

I just signed up on Plenty of Fish, too! Had a few interesting messages already... At the very least, this could be fun!

When I was on there, I didn't reply to hardly anyone. I think the men almost expect it sometimes. And when they don't make much effort with their message (ie hey, how are you? good weekend?) then why would you bother replying?

Hi sarah, same boat!! I've just got another job, thats 3 in total. I WANT A HUSBAND WITH A JOB!!!!!!! It can be very frustrating. I wish I had been more sensible and starting saving when the tooth fairy was still visiting. Although on a serious note, I am a homeowner (shoebox flat) and car and unless you have a professional career or live with someone who earns money, I think its almost impossible to juggle all expenses these days. Sometimes I think I'll move back with mother then I'll be rich!!! I'm also sick of people saying "two jobs, you must be loaded" Sorry, I'm moaning, so with 3rd job I may be able to go on holdiay next year. At the end of the day the hard truth is that a second job may be the answer for you, something social so at least you're not sitting home alone, you'll be meeting people and live in hope that one day Mr "I'd like to share your mortgate payments/bills" may arrive Ha Ha

Aaargh! Just wrote a long reply and lost it! Just wanted to say wecome, and 3 jobs- that is hugely impressive! I want a husband with a job too!

Hi, i have only been "lurking" around for a week or so since somebody recommended me this site. Post's like yours are such a good idea. its so easy to feel isolated sometimes and you dont really want to ring your mates up and talk about debt do you! i am single with a little girl and a mountain of debt from the ex. it really is such a struggle sometimes, but just reading some of the posts like yours make me feel so much better as I know its not just me going through crap like this. so thanks a lot - and i promise you as long as you face up to your debt (as you clearly are) it will get easier.
You are definitely not the only one going through it, and you're right, it's not exactly something you want to talk to friends about! It is much less isolating with all the brilliant people on here to talk to. Glad you feel better x

    HI EVERYONE!
Sorry didn't mean to shout! I haven't posted for a few days, been surviving on pain killers, things are bad at the moment. I had a successful birthday weekend for myself and No3 son. Too many couples! All served to show how much I want a husband (preferably taller than me of course!)
MARLEYBOY I'm sorry that you felt like a charley but I'll bet everyone was so engrossed in their own business that they didn't even think about you being on your own. Be brave and try again. Like riding a horse it should get easier as you go.
Hi to everyone I haven't chatted to before. Welcome
