Hi folks. I just *have* to join in here. I was putting it off by starting to read from the beginning, but I realised I'd have to just jump in eventually.

So, this is me. Single and in debt, and *longing* to be out of it. I'm kind of antisocial anyway, which is why I'm single, but I do want more companionship and activities than I have now, life is pretty unbalanced at the mo.

I'm afraid I'm older than most of the people on here too, thats another thing thats isolating, but we can only start from where we are. So this is me, starting off again.

Yes, I have my antisocial moments too. Hence it's difficult to meet new people. Life is easier single, but not as fun ;)

Oh, and age aint nothing but a number (according to the song - so it must be true!!) and there's no ageism on this thread :p

    Isn't that the truth!

2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Hi I'm 38 and single and have just over £30,000 debt. I am suffering with depression and my family do not know how much debt I am in. I cannot afford a morgage and rent a small flat. I had to resort to an IVA and I make steep payments every month, after rent and bills I do not have much to live on. I also suffer with an eating disorder so things are tough at the moment. It would be nice to chat to other singletons on here.

  • Hello to all the newbies!

I have been away so not entirely caught up yet. I stayed with a couple and their child. won't be doing that again! it did make me think tho actually being single is really not that bad! I don't argue with some one every day and I can mostly do as I please!

Any how what are this weeks challenges?

I am going to a wedding tomorrow night - ALONE so think of me!

    take care all

  • Hi
I was just browsing through the forums and this one caught my eye, its great to know there are people in the same position as me.

I am single, 3 weeks away from 29 and in £30,000 debt with nothing to show for it except a car which i cant afford to run!! I agree that being single has its added pressures, no-one to share the worries / bills with. I also find that being single i have to make more effort to meet people which usually involves spending money.
My debt has esculated over the past 10 years - starting off as a student having no respect for money or the consequences of compulsive spending untill now when facing 30 and desperate to get myself sorted.
I think i have finally got to the point where i must face my debts and am enthused by all the posts on this thread, almost excited at the fact that there is a way out of debt.
I look forward to reading more interesting posts.

what i can't understand is it used to seem so easy to meet new people in pubs, so why is it so hard now
  • I agree its really hqrd to meet people in pubs. I have come to the conclusion that its my guarded attitude when i go out and i am far too picky the older i get!! I think our expectations are much higher being single older hence the over spending to compensate for the lonliness!!!

i'm not sure it's our expectations that are too high, but the once hurt twice shy does apply, but your right about the overspending to compensate
