    Yet another 31-and-single...

Recently had to admit defeat about being able to afford to live alone and have acquired a housemate. I got so tired of having absolutely no life. I decided the extra money wouldn't all go towards my debt. With £300/month payments, I'll be debt-free by the time I graduate in three years, and that's a goal I'm comfortable with. So for the first time in many years, I finally have a little financial breathing room and I'm so glad!

I discovered a cheap night out last night. Joined a knitting group in a local cafe. Two hours of fun and company, total cost: £1.35 for a coke! I can live with that :)

Eeek! Can't imagine ever feeling like that! Have probably been on my own too long. I need a (well paid) Mr Right! Part of the problem is that sometimes I think we hold ourselves back as we don't want to have to reveal our financial situations, and also can't afford to do lots of "coupley" things. Also when all your friends are in couples it's sometimes difficult to even go out and meet people.

This is the first time I've been properly single since I was 17 so I've probably been in messed up relationships for too long which has changed me a bit! I'm sure one day I'll meet someone who will make me think differently but not yet.

I totally know what you mean about not being able to go out and meet people because of the financial situation though, I do find it frustrating that I can't go on all the nights out with my mates.

One day we will all be debt free and be able to though! :)

Another singleton here! I've been coping with the stress of my own stupidity and rising debt for 4 years now - I live at my parents' house now as I couldn't afford rent any more. They're amazing people but I can't talk to them about how much I owe. It's been such a relief this week to be able to ask questions, see how everyone else is coping and admit my £26k debt.
You're very much not on your own Sarahb123!
    Warm wishes X

Hi GardenLover, this is exactly why I wanted this to be a support thread, so we can all talk about to to other people who know about the "stress of my own stupidity" thing. We all know that feeling, and it is hard to not to be able to talk about it. You're not on your own either, as you can see there are lots of us! Good luck, and warm wishes to you as well x

  • I too am single and in crap loads of debt and mid 30's. Not quite what I had in mind. Everyday a struggle. Annoyed as can't send off DMP papers until have new bank account sorted, how come getting a basic one takes far to long???? Am in dire need as no payments made this month not even token as can't alert main bank to a problem....grrrrrr. Hoped todays post would bare the fruit I needed, nope. Just mail I hide that I didn't want to open.
  • Can I join? I'm about to be single again in 2 weeks after 23 years of marriage. I've always worked but it's going to be hard not to have the cushion of that "second income" in the hard times. I should come out of it mortgage free and hope to reduce debt "almost free" - my problem is going to be finding the discipline to keep it that way on a fairly tight budget!

  • For a small fee, I'll be willing to be a 'Foster Husband/boyfriend' to each of you. My service entails sitting/lying on the couch waiting for my tea to be made, moaning about how the house never gets cleaned correctly while I clip my toe nails onto the carpet and periodically I will impulse buy some gadget or other that I'll lose interest in within a couple of weeks. I also promise never to tidy up after myself, make a meal or tell you how pretty you look today. No flowers will be bought and if you need to weep on my shoulder because that nasty bully at work was picking on you I'll suggest that you talk to your girly friends because "that's what they're there for".

I can guarantee that after just a couple of visits you'll be glad to be a single Moneysaver!

Complete satisfaction or your money back! ;)

A completely timely reminder of why I like being single most of the time.
Its been tough the last few months work has been grim and I have frequently wished for a handsome prince to come along but lets face it that is just not going to happen!

I ve been single for years now. sad but it is my normal state! really should try to have some fun now its the summer;)

Hi Mrs Doyle, of course you can join, the more the merrier! I am really sorry to hear about your situation, I hope you are ok. It is more difficult with just one salary, but I am determined that it can be done, and hopefully we will be able to encourage each other, am hoping that it will be easier to stay on the straight and narrow if I have to confess my sins to you all!

This is me grrrrrrrrrrr! I am so used to being single now I worry it will never happen! Feels like being single keeps me in debt, and being in debt keeps me single. Always thought I was the only one who felt like this, thinking about it I don't even know very many single people. Am tired of being the odd one out all the time!

Oh God i know exactly what you mean. I can't go out cos i am skint, can't get a boyfriend cos I don't go out. all my friends are married. yep apart from two. I go to weddings on my own, first birthday parties with out a baby! one kid at a party actually asked me where my child was  and I have to deal with everything to do with money and what have you all by myself.

    strop strop pace pace.

    done now!

I am going to change this. I AM.
