  • Morning

Same here - still have my student loans - had to start paying it back this month - was hoping to postpone it for a little long but alas they got me - read elsewhere on the forum that its better to pay off other debts first as your student loans have a lower interest.

Thinking of getting an evening job - which will help to pay back the debts and secondly stop me from going out and spending money as i would be at work - lol
  • Hello everyone - I've been lurking for a while but this thread has struck a cord! I'm 27 and single - most of my debt comes from going to friends weddings and hen dos! I moved house a month ago and paying the deposit and letting agent fees has well and truly messed up my finances. Have been trying to be good and not go out and spend money on wine and girls nights out but it's so hard to resist when the alternative is another night in front of the TV!
  • Another singleton here! I've been coping with the stress of my own stupidity and rising debt for 4 years now - I live at my parents' house now as I couldn't afford rent any more. They're amazing people but I can't talk to them about how much I owe. It's been such a relief this week to be able to ask questions, see how everyone else is coping and admit my £26k debt.
You're very much not on your own Sarahb123!
    Warm wishes X

Hello everyone, I thought I'd join this thread, I'm 27 and single in the 'financial sense'. I'm in about £3k debt which although isn't alot compared to some on here, it's alot for me to try to pay off on my own. I live in rented accomodation with my daughter aged 9 and I work part time. I thought for now I'd pop in and say hello but I'm off camping for the weekend so I'll catch up and chat more on sunday when I get back. Please can someone tell me how I subscribe to a thread? it's probably really easy but I can't find it. I'm new to this posting but have been lurking for over a year lol
    Initial Debt July 2020 - £6,772.80
    Debt now Jan 2021 - £6,208.21
    Overpayment pot - £0
  • Hi Bowski - I've just worked out how to subscribe after looking for ages! If you go to thread tools at the top of the posts you can do it through there. Have a lovely weekend camping - hope the sunshine stays for you!

    Hi there,

I am not in your situation but I can understand how you must be feeling and there are lots of others here in the same boat as you can see. Maybe if you were to do a SOA and post it on here then we could take a look at it and hopefully suggest some ways in which you could save?

Again, I'm not sure of the size of your debts, whether they are loans or credit cards? How is your credit rating? If good and the debt is on a credit card you could look into a 0% Balance Transfers card. If you credit rating is not so good, maybe a friend / family member could apply for a card for you and then you pay it off that way? Thats just an idea as that what I have ended up doing with OH due to his credit rating.

Like I said, do a quick SOA and we can hopefully give you some hints!

The 'stress and stupidity at rising debt' really struck a chord with me! And while I am not living with (or even near) my parents, I am also in the same situation as you as far as not being able/wanting to tell them about my debt as it would really upset/worry them.

What steps are you taking to sort yourself out? I was going to go with CCCS on debt management but think I am going to try to negotiate with creditors myself.

I'm single (in the financial sense) too but that has a different set of problems so as far as it goes, isn't really much more supportive. My OH knows I have debt but after 2 years I can't bring myself to confess the figure. In the meantime, I feel that it holds me back from doing "boyfriend-girlfriend" things like going on holidays, nights out, saving for a house as a huge chunk of my salary pays out on my debts.

Life is hard but with the support of these guys on the forum then you'll get through it! They have fantastic ideas and tips for saving pennies here and there. Let us be your support and let us help!

  • Morning all...

Sarah, you have started something here!

I still have my student loans too. I have done the travelling bit and as I said resigned myself to forgetting the house and probably even the car.... Not too bothered at the moment, my number 1 priority is clearing the debts.

The obvious thing to bring up on this thread is Sex and the City...what I want to know is how on earth did Carrie have THAT wardrobe with just a lowly newspaper column to pay for it?! Think I am partially guilty of (stereotypically again) living the 'Cosmo' lifestyle on a babycham income...

Maybe it was all really from Primark?!!

I've been paid today and now I need all you lovely ladies to tell me not to go shopping over the weekend for things I don't really need...
