  • Hi,

I find the best way to operate a spending diary is to get a little cash book. After you have allocated yourself a weekly amount to spend per week, write this amount in the book and deduct each item of spend, keeping a balance as you go. At the end of the week use any spare cash towards your most expensive loan or leave it to the overdraft. At the beginning of the next week, add a new amount.

    Cheers
  • Thank you!
  • Hi Guys,

DDs post made me laugh and realise thats what my Ex is like, anything he needed doing before Mummy used to do, think she still does his washing now! hes nearly 40...

Would like somewhere to post, doing a couple of challenges (well doing one should be doing another one!!! clicking is hard at work no BB at home at the mo), not completely sure on the payments on my SOA yet but when I do have them will hopefully be able to get a better plan together.

Looking forward to typing with you

Hi runmichellerun, thanks for posting. I still have my student debt as well, they are such a nuisance! My priority is a house at the moment, but need to get everything cleared before I can start saving for that. You have done really well on your credit card already! I will be at least 40 before I am on the property ladder as well, won't be able to go travellling first though, am v jealous!

I am so glad I'm not alone with this. I want to clear my CC debt by Christmas, and also save enough in the meantime so I don't put any on it over Christmas (this will be a first for me - I love buying gifts for other people). Once I've cleared that I will put most of the money into clearing by loan, and also start saving a bit more.

I'm going on holiday in a few weeks time though so that could be worrying, but I've already saved up all the spending money I've estimated I'll need. I'll take my CC along with me for emergencies (not new shoes!!! more like running out of food  )

  • DD - you reminded me why its better to be single lol

I've actually not got anything from the sales this summer - i brought two skirts from Oasis last weekend - took them home and realised what a waste of money they were and took them back.

Also walked into the next sale and walked straight out again. So far so good - its the weekend that is the hardest!

Havent done a SOA yet but will do the snowball calculator - i'm guessing its going to be around 2012/2013. - where do i find it?

crikey just when I was beginning to think I was the only single 30 something woman left in the world! there are loads of us!

    excellent thread idea sarah

    night all xxx

I know! I always thought I was the only one as well! Am so pleased that so many people have posted, feel loads better today! I hope we can all be a great support to one another, is nice to be able to talk about it for a change. I hate being single! I know it shouldn't matter but it makes me feel like such a failure, I feel I should be more settled by now. Never thought I would be nearing 40 and still renting, or spending the weekend by myself. Am determined to have it all sorted by 40!

Hey Princess Peach, I used this one http://www.whatsthecost.com/snowball.aspx

The SOA is a bit of a scary thing to do, but I'm very glad I did mine now :)

It's really strange, I hated being single before but in the last 3 or 4 months I love it! I can't imagine sharing my life with anyone now.... I guess that makes me a bit sad but I'm happier now than I can ever remember being before! My friend's keep telling me that this is the point when Mr Right will walk into my life but I can't help hoping he doesn't just yet!

Last month I NEEDED a new pair of jeans and wedge shoes (shoes justified as being 'comfortable heels' I could wear all day and the jeans being long enough to reach the floor when wearing heels). £90 in total. Both in sale so 'saved' a total of £95 buying them. Oh how shrewd!!!

Ridiculous! What a way to think! I am ashamed of writing it down....

This is me! I need the shoes becuase I need the trousers, and I need the trousers because I need the shoes! This is the kind of thinking that has got me into this situation, but it all seems so reasonable at the time! Is really difficult to stop, especially when you think, "I need cheering up, and they look so nice, and they are a bargain!" Soooo difficult to stop thinking like that.

Eeek! Can't imagine ever feeling like that! Have probably been on my own too long. I need a (well paid) Mr Right! Part of the problem is that sometimes I think we hold ourselves back as we don't want to have to reveal our financial situations, and also can't afford to do lots of "coupley" things. Also when all your friends are in couples it's sometimes difficult to even go out and meet people.
