I'm 39 and single with DS. never meet anyone new as just about all my friends are in couples although I was just out with single mate who is going out to dinner tomorrow with someone who dumped her last month for his ex because she "doesn't have anyone else queueing up asking"... I'd rather have beans on toast on my own (no I didn't say that to her) ta.Mortgage OP 2025 £6750/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

Sarah, you have started something here!
I still have my student loans too. I have done the travelling bit and as I said resigned myself to forgetting the house and probably even the car.... Not too bothered at the moment, my number 1 priority is clearing the debts.
The obvious thing to bring up on this thread is Sex and the City...what I want to know is how on earth did Carrie have THAT wardrobe with just a lowly newspaper column to pay for it?! Think I am partially guilty of (stereotypically again) living the 'Cosmo' lifestyle on a babycham income...
Oh I can so relate to this! LOL I was at its height 29k in debt, I ended up remortgaging as when i moved into my house my mortgage was only £28k, its now £63k but I overpay like mad and a I've also spent a fortune on tryin to get my house into a liveable state, still geting there but I hope to have both house lovely nad mortgage gone in 10 years.
I'm 36 and I've been single like forever, (with cat!) the trouble is the longer I'm single the more independent I get and think there is no room in my life for a man - hopefully I'll feel different if its the right one (trouble is have habit of picking the wrong ones LOL)
Wishing you all lots of luck.

Proof, if we needed it, that staying single is actually the best option for us all!
I must admit that being single annoys me sometimes, but other times I'm just so glad. I see some of my best friends getting married and settling down and I can't help but feel that they're 'making do' because they're so scared of being alone.
I'm more scared of being with someone who makes me miserable. :eek:LBM February 2008. DFD March 2013 19 August 2011Debt at LBM £14,395.48. Debt Now £00 -

Hi to everyone and all newcomers! Totally agree with the above, although I bemoan my single status, I would far rather be alone than make do, much better to be single and be able to go into a new relationship than have to get out of the wrong one first, and at least I don't have the nightmare of owning a house with someone and being unable to leave due to money issues. Also, I can eat the massive gu pud I just bought without anyone saying, "are you sure you should be doing that?"Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
I think it is very easy to get into debt when single. No one to really pull back the reins on spending. Then again I did quite well at hiding my debt from the other half. Just kept saying that I was keeping up with the payments and then BAM job problem! Now £23k in debt and doing everything possible to get rid of it.
For those singletons out there who are struggling have a peek at this http://www.mydebtfreeday.com/?page_id=47 as it could be useful. We are getting an extra £300 per month. Which covers fuel and car insurance for getting to work.
One wish........ that FUEL PRICES COME DOWN. If that wish can't be granted the lottery numbers for tonight would be appreciated.Ok £23k in debt so what. I am paying it off but need to be quicker about it. Any help or ideas are always welcome.
My Debt Free Day will be 1st August 2018! Ouch!0 -

Same here, apart from the cat! I did have hopes about a man I met recently, have just (after a month) managed to wean myself of checking my phone for texts every 2 mins. Hate watching the phone, makes me feel like such a teenager! I do feel very set in my ways at times, am just used to coping with everything by myself I think. I think the longer you are single, the more it just becomes a way of life and you get used to not having to accommodate anyone else's way of doing things. Am tired of having to manage everything by myself though.Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
I understand how you feel sarah but honestly, I've been single for nearly 2 years and enjoying life more now than I ever have done. At least, I can do what I want to do and I can sort my debts in my own way.
After nearly 25 years in a relationship, it really is nice to have time out even though I'm 40!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I only managed to start sorting out my debts after splitting with someone who'd made them even worse but now I feel in control for the first time ever so being single isn't all bad!

I miss having company, being single is something im not used to, ive been in 2 relationships in my life, 13 and 10 yrs, so id be classed as inexperienced at finding romance, made even more complex by all my friends having families of their own. I work, I get home, I cook, clean, set myrself up for the next day, rarely do i go out (unless invited to parties), of which even if I do, id be on my own, certainly not something I enjoy. Its one thing to say I am debt free, but what is wealth if you have nobody to share the pleasure with.
Its not meant as a statement about all that glitters is gold or money buys love, its meant more as I would much rather provide for my family, than spend it on myself, that in itself is the pleasure of going to work.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
