I think plenty of fish is free Marleyboy, can't vouch for it's usefulness as I haven't tried it myself. The reason I suggested it was just that like you say there are less opportunities as you get older for socialising and meeting folks. one of my friends is v happy with someone she met through internet dating though/while another seems to be dating nutters through a similar site.:D
one of my friends seems determined to fix me up and keeps introducing me to folk but her only criterion seems to be that they are single! I'm not fussy but would like someone I had something in common with...:o

I did meet a really nice guy on Facebook once (was clear he was still completely not over the ex though ) but certainly seems the minority.

I would love to meet someone, but the longer I am single the more I seem to regress into a desire for some Mills n Boon style romance :rotfl: and then I still just sit at home when the little one has gone to bed wondering how I am going to bump into my dream man lol!

I thank you all for your advice, I havent considered internet dating sites. (Think they cost a fortune,,,and paying a dating service to find you a partner, kinda goes against the idea of finding the right person)

Asking your mates if they know any "single women" to take out to a party, makes you sound desperate, and at least to many male freinds "sad".

Its not as if I can walk into a bar on my own, see an attractive woman, and simply walk over and introduce myself.

There are plenty of free internet dating sites I think, you could maybe give it a go, nothing ventured ...etc. I know you feel it goes against the way you feel you may meet your ideal woman, but if the idea is to meet your ideal woman, does it matter so much how you do it? If you feel you are limited in ways to meet people it may be worth a try x

Sounds familiar Ossireo, I spend a lot of time sitting at home alone while DS is asleep! I'm not being too mills n boon or fussy but just don't want to settle for someone just cos they are available if you know what I mean.
Marleyboy, this place is full of single women, just give us a vague indication of your location and you may get some offers - you sound lovely.

Its all so different nowadays, the last time I remember asking a girl out on a date I was 16, over 20 years ago. The internet wasnt even heard of back then, and nobody had mobile phones. Like you say a lot of the dating sites are full of weirdos who get off on cybering.. Its not my cup of tea, but each to their own I guess ;).

Chatrooms are gone now, at least I cant find any that are civil. I mean look at me now, ive reduced myself to hanging out my laundry on an MSE forum,

I seem to spend most of my evenings in front the TV or books![/quote]

I do this, spend far too much on books though, as my credit card will tell you! I think I am quite a solitary person at times and I don't mind my own company, I think this may be part of the problem for me though, I have become too solitary, I just feel like I may have left some things too late, I have always felt, "well maybe someone will come along," and now I feel I have to force the issue a bit more as I do want to find someone. Just feel a bit stuck in limbo really.

  • Marleyboy - you should try being a 50 something woman. Talk about invisible .....men don't even notice I'm in the room :-(
Sadly, in my experience, young men are only interested in young women and old men are only interested in young women. I've accepted I'll most likely remain single now but NO WAY I'm ready for the slippers and knitted shawl. Mine's the leather jacket with "Hell's Granny" on the back!
