That sounds like a great idea, Bathgate.

I feel really cramped at the moment so would love lots of space!

    Keep us posted!

I'm supposed to be saving for a deposit ever since I started my new job 4 months ago, the first two paydays covered my debts, then I bought a laptop, then it was Christmas and now I'm going on holiday.

This is why I want to start selling my junk so I can build up some savings properly.
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

here is the preloved site http://www.preloved.co.uk/

I use it to sell "big things" for collection only? like odd bits of furniture and pet cages.

I didn't really get how you made money on Amazon so have always left it

I am going to try and sell old Cd's on music magpie, haven't tried it yet.

and I thought NCIS was well scary!!

Well apparently you make about £1.41 from a book selling for 1p - but that doesn't include postage. You should still make some profit providing it is a normal book size and not a big coffee table style book.

I have a few books that I have put up for reasonable amounts. I even had one big coffee table style book with Mario Testino photos for £50 - which is inline with others on the site but on checking bookfinder I think it is about £20 overpriced. I also have a specialist book on there for about £100 ish.

I think the 60 days is up on them in the next few weeks so will reassess situation then.

You do have to be careful as the postage charge remains same despite size of book so if it is big and heavy you need to ensure the cost of the book covers increased postage.

I think the big sellers don't really make the money from the books but from the postage. There is a thread in the ebay/amazon/carboot board and selling a book for the £10 mark was a really oddity and unusual - and generally things like techical textbooks.

I've a few things I should send off to music magpie asap but not much motivation as think getting about £1.50 for 5 cd's!!!!!

Right there you can see a quick search for clothes from Next,

you can buy or sell almost any brand. I havent sold clothes in ages, but I have a rule that if it is going on e bay I start it at 99p. Alot of people start at higher prices, obviously if you have good brands start a bit higher. Always check out the competition. you can search for finished listings, (look down the menu on the left)

    http://cgi5.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?SellHub3Visitor&_trksid=m38

this is the start selling link, I am by no means an expert and I can manage it.

I don't add fancy backgrounds to my listings but I will often have more then one photo - for instance showing the soles of shoes if I am saying they haven't been worn etc.

I usually write a detailed description of any item I am selling, size, colour etc.

Postage and packing especially since they changed the rules drives me nuts!

    this link helped some

My next task is try the turbo seller, like I said I am no expert!

will let you all know how it goes!

What really annoys me is that prices are so much better at the moment so if I had been sensible I would have a good deposit by now:rolleyes: Probably another 2 years of saving properly would do it, but I can't wait! I want a house now!

  • Hi all

just a flying visit as things are a bit manic here... officially back at part-time degree this week and entering Terrified Panic Mode at the idea of finals in 6 months. Have been reading most days just not posting as supposed to be busy doing something else!

Re. Amazon, Music Magpie etc there is an MSE guide to Amazon and Ebay somewhere on the boards, have a look through as it explains pricing etc. I found that Music Magpie prices were very low for some CDs compared to Amazon, and you need a minimum of 5, so have put the more sellable ones on Amazon and two have sold already. Also sold a book I wasn't expecting to get rid of and have made about £13 already - it really is dead easy to set up selling if you already buy from the site.

Other handy info re. books, I found out yesterday that my local library accept donations of books so will be taking the good condition copies to them from now on. That way I can declutter and still know I can get a copy easily if I want to read it again :D hurrah!

Other than that no news from me, have slept through most of Valentine's Day. Getting to know new guy at work and do like him, going to see how it goes though as have to work with him (though he is short term so wouldn't be a problem forever). Going to try and start walking to/ from work as problems with parking and need the exercise. And really really really have to start studying properly. So now it's after midnight and I have officially had my NSD I am off to order cool textbooks!

see ebay post and get started woman!!!!!

:rotfl: Thanks for the links, I know it's something I should do, it will help to declutter and give me some money for my savings, it's just the getting round to it part:D I have looked at selling on amazon and green met as it looks really easy, but most of the books I would sell are the ones listed at 1p so I wouldn't make enough to justify it, although it would help to free up some space.

Hi all, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I ended up taking 2 painkillers last night about 3am as my head was hurting so much I couldn't sleep, I know you're not supposed to do that but wasn't prepared to stay awake all night feeling poorly. Jumped on the scales this morning and was most disappointed to see that all my efforts haven't resulted in 5lb loss.:D

Feeling lots better today, so going to have hot water and lemon and then might brave a walk to the shops, it's very cold but I have no other excuse really.:o Don't need anything but have a Boots £5 voucher which needs using so might see what I can get with that. Have just remembered TDQ's advice about ipod so will take that with me. It really is freezing though!

Will do some more decluttering when I get back, have one bag for the bin and one for the charity shop so far, need to be more ruthless. Will take Lula's advice and find something nice and hang it up as an incentive to lose weight.

Will do all this just as soon as I can force myself to get out of bed:D

    Hello everyone,

glad you're feeling better today sarah, caffeine withdrawal is quite nasty, actually thinking about it, since I did my detox coffee is the one thing I havent drunk so much of since ... I limit myself to 2 big cups or 3 small ones a day now & really notice the insomnia kick in if I drink any after 7 in the evening  .

Having yet another decluttering & cleaning day today ( in pyjamas too - couldnt do that with a man about the house :D ) & weirdly really really enjoying it  . We were going to visit local rspca centre with views to taking bag of stuff for them - they sell bricabrac, videos, books etc but not clothes or electricals - but DD has declared today a full on pyjama day :j so we wont be leaving the house. Hmmmm, if I dont relocate some of the charity bags we wont ever be able to leave the house again :o .

RosaB - good luck with studying & well done for taking things slowly with man, very wise of you & so patient too :A

Bathgatebuyer - :j to potential new house & having lots of space is great, spare rooms gives you options  . My sis lives in a fab 3 storey house with lots of smallish rooms & they're always changing things around & changing the use of each room - would keep me happy for ever :D . Great idea about singles day. I'm loving my new life at the moment & that sneaking suspicion of not being suitable for coupledom ( except in very large house perhaps with a wing each :rotfl: ) has resurfaced. So many of the things I want to do in life - particularly when DD all grown up & independent - are just not compatible with having to consider/consult another person :o .

Right, off to find more stuff to release back into the community now....

    back later
    lula
