One of my '100 things' was to do a cross-stitch I bought about 3 yrs ago that has just sat there. So tonight I actually got it out and read through the instructions. It does seem a bit hard tho' .... hopefully I don't mess it up too much!

You'll be fine Makeup, just go for it, easily unpicked if you make a mistake, which you won't, I just found one in amongst all my stitching stuff, that I started over 10 years ago  which I'm determined to finish.

Don't post on here very often, I think this is my second post on this thread but I really do identify with all the things you lovely lot all say.

Out of interest, are any of you only children? I am, and I associate that with my need to control everything, and the reason I don't stick it out with any man who doesn't live up to my standards. it's also the reason I don't mind being alone too much (especially when I have wine :D )

I'm an only child & I can identify with what you are saying, I like to know what's going on, when, where, etc, it suited me when I was with someone he worked away alot (I knew where he was, I could get on with my own "stuff" without interuptions), when he changed jobs & was home every night, it drove me mad, questioning my routinues, following me round the house, etc, God I sound like such a control freak :rotfl:

Anyway after my little foray out of "lurkdom" I'm off too bed, had migraine all day, only just starting to feel better but feel really, really tired.

Thanks for that! I think you're right a bit intimidating at first but once I get going I'll get the feel for it!

I'm looking forward to getting started!

I'm an only child too! Also my dad went running to the hills when I was born so I have never met him, the family was also so horrified of the whole 'b@stard situation' that they emigrated to Australia!! (btw just to point out I have rather a bad sense of humour about the whole b@stard word, and when called one in anger will often say .. yes, yes I am ;) always leaves them speechless :rotfl: )

I have always thought this may be the reasoning behind my contradictory feeling of 'wanting to be wanted' vs 'get the hell out of my space'

I love cross stitch, and back in my buy anything that I want on credit days I bought many sets .. trouble is after moving 5 times and still not really unpacking, not to mention the fact I still have many boxes of stuff at an ex's house and stuff in the attic of my old marital home, I have no idea where they are! I can actually picture them all boxed neatly together .. but where .. who knows! I recently bought a little £5 one as a treat to myself from ebay that I have been doing at times. I find it very theraputic when I do get down to it, the hardest bit is starting it off I think as you need to find the centre. Good luck with yours and get a wooden frame as well if you can as keeping the fabric tight helps as well!

As for Native American Horesopes ... hmm not so sure I like mine ...
    Bear: Aug 22 – Sep 21
Pragmatic, and methodical the Bear is the one to call when a steady hand is needed. The Bear's practicality and level-headedness makes him/her an excellent business partner. Usually the voice of reason in most scenarios, the Bear is a good balance for Owls. The Bear is also gifted with an enormous heart, and a penchant for generosity. However, one might not know it as the Bear tends to be very modest, and a bit shy. In a loving environment this Native American animal symbol showers love and generosity in return. Further, the Bear has a capacity for patience and temperance, which makes him/her excellent teachers and mentors. Left to his/her own devices the bear can be skeptical, sloth, small-minded and reclusive.

That last line sums my last few years up way too well :o:rolleyes:

Thanks Ossireo, I've borrowed a frame from my Mum so hopefully will get started soon.

That is kind of funny that the whole horoscope was really nice and then you picked up on the last line.....which in a way matches in with something the horoscope said earlier - 'Bears tend to be modest' - maybe truer than you think!!!:rotfl:

    Hello All

Feeling much better today, been for a 2 1/2 mile walk, bloomin freezing  , nice to know there's some other cross stitchers on this thread, also good for weight loss as you can't be eating too much choccie whilst stitching or you'll make it all mucky
Sadly, I am also to books what I am to toiletries:o In fact with the books I am worse.:o I have (and I know this to be true) more books than my local library. But in my defence they should be ashamed of themselves if one person can amass more than them.

LOL Sarah, I thought of you & this post yesterday, received a letter from the book club which I belong to but hardley ever use these days, offering me a "come back to us" thing choose any 6 books from 1p only, well couldn't resisit that, so I bought some sensible books: -
    Road Atlas (s/b £10.90, cost 25p),
I know could get a Satnav but they so p*ss me off when I'm other peoples cars that I want to throw them out of the window :rotfl:
    World Atlas (s/b £40.00, cost £4.50)
Get so fed up of countries being mentioned by friends / on the news / etc & not having a clue where they are, should of paid more attention in Geography lessons at school
    Anjum's Indian Cookbook (s/b £20.00, cost £2.75)
Saw her show on BBC2 last year, thought it might be nice to try some dishes rather than ringing for a takeaway
Chinese Food by Ching He Huang (s/b 16.99, cost £1.99)
Again looked good in her BBC2 prog
    A couple of "Know Your Rights" type books (s/b £11.99 & £7.99, cost 25p & 1p)

Right off to have a grilled chicken, tomato & melted cheese roll, followed by home made blackberry & apple cake, washed down with a nice hot cuppa of coffee

    See you all later

Inky, I also bought an atlas recently for much the same reason, I'm ok with other countries but struggle with this one! never have any idea where anywhere is or how far away, am sick of looking silly:o Am a bit more informed now:D

Have been on another mini book buying expedition, had a voucher for a free book and ended up getting 3 more, so spent £12.50 on books which should have been £28, am quite pleased with that, one is a ghost story so shall have to wait until there is at least one other person in the house before I start that one, I get scared easily when I'm home alone and it's too quiet.:o

The diet is not going well I think, have been quite sensible but have been to the drive thru today as I was bored and hungry, Sunday is my weigh in day so I shall see the damage then, on the plus side I think I am going to have to drastically cut back on alcohol as I had some on Thursday evening after not having any for a while and felt absolutely dreadful on Friday morning, shouldn't drink on a work night anymore, I think.:o The problem is I never have just one glass so will just have to make sure I don't keep any in the house. should help with the debts as well, I always go in for a bottle of wine and end up coming out with a basket full of stuff I don't need.
