I wanted to go to the Chalet school thought it was amazing and that I'd learn German much better there.

I remember the Fiver finders outers. I had a fantastic childhood. I couldn't put books down. would read all the time.

*feels it neccesary to confess that I have been looking at gardening books on amazon - a new sadness! have mentally spent 20 quid. not going to buy anything yet tho.
and all this is because of my sister! must not spend money have no money to spend*

    good night all xxxx

    Hi Buffy,

I spent a fair amount of time yearning for Alys Fowlers gardening for skint DFWs ( not real title obviously bit something similar which I cant remember)
yesterday; it just look so much fun & the pictures are fab, I want my garden to have that lush & slightly wild feeling - but not because it's overrun with weeds & brambles as per it's current status. *makes mental note to appreciate & improve current lot in life & stop yearning for cashmere & other fabby things*.

I should probably confess to being drawn into the 20 % off sale at Faith the other day in the hope of finding fabby black suede boots & bag to match :o ,
fate has it that there were none I liked/would be able to do more than just stand & sway in  . Saw great pair of wellies too, but they were £20  , yes they were very pretty but still, £20 for wellies  . Hmm, may have to do a bit of bargaining/compromising with self in order to acquire some kind of new footwear - it's been months & I really cant hold out much longer...

know just what you mean about good old fashioned sweeties * feels relieved at finding fellow nostalgic*

There's a stall outside Sunderland's stadium on match days that sells all those great old fashioned sweets.

I think I'll be stopping off for a bag of cough candy twists (just because it's cold of course, nothing to do with being addicted to them)

One of the things I would love about having children is the opportunity to introduce them to my childhood reading (and sweets). I have all the books at my parents' house, ready to be passed to me. I worry that I am terribly old fashioned, have already lost the sweets argument (no oz anymore) but want to win the books one. The thing is, in terms of society those books are old fashioned, but in terms of morality/enjoyment they are not and never will be. But I can't see them overcoming the thrall of the Wii etc. I do think *shows age* that today's children have missed out. *Plans to keep children in time warp*

my DS loves Roald Dahl's books and they are pretty ancient! Friend's daughter loves the Little House on the Prairie thing, neither of these kids is in time warp as they still love playstations and Wiis but a good story wins through. The kids in Roald Dahl's books usually have a pretty hard life too.

P.S. we have quite a few shops up here selling loose sweeties by weight - seems to be sort of trendy in a retro way.

I've never read them Lula, but DS was telling me some of the girls in his class like Nancy Drew which brought back a few memories! I've always fancied going boating on the norfolk broads but when Damon out of brookside got stabbed on a longboat it put me off...

Ooh, how I used to love going to the library! Many happy hours!

Loved Swallows and Amazons and also the Secret Garden and The Little Princess, must have read them dozens of times with a big bag of sweets to hand.

I also remember the huge excitement I used to feel every Wednesday morning when the Beano arrived- sad to say I don't think anything has excited me quite as much since!:D

I did, just before we went on holiday to the Norfolk broads.

More for younger kids but I also have images in my memory conjured up from readnig an Enid Blyton trilogy of books called The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree & The Folk of the Faraway Tree.

I was really into the Hardy Boys books in junior school & then I saw the tv series "The Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew Mysteries" so I borrowed a couple of Nancy Drew's from the library & the librarian went over to my nan's house (she lived right oppsite & was well known to the staff) & told her I'd been getting girls books out. :o
