I didn't know about the franchise thing, assumed they were safer. Oh well, I will know for next time.

I feel your pain PinkTwirl. You are not alone!
I felt like a big pigeon was going to poo on me next!
That's another problem about getting out of debt - having to replace things through ridiculous accidents! The worst thing was that I dropped a flaming jar of 99p olives on it and that is what broke it! The olive jar was intact! :rolleyes:0 -

Hi Buffy, was just looking at your thread, was going to post but Lula said it all so well already. It's not long until the Christmas hols now, I know you're not looking forward to the actual day, but at least the break will give you time to recharge your batteries.
Was initially very upset about the car but the glass(es) of wine helped! I hope tomorrow is a better day too.
Hope Tuesday brings better things for you as well xxx

Hi,
I started my new job 2 weeks ago. My car broke down twice, needed 3 new tyres at a total of £210 and then the same night managed to smash a £150 glass tv stand. I wailed. Now I'm having problems paying my bills this month.
It's always guaranteed
 Yikes, that's some bad luck streak.
Hopefully that's your bad luck quota used up for a while.0 -
Hi Sarah, sorry i didnt get back to drink empathetically - got chatting & didnt get to bed until 2.30 - now cant stop yawning.
Hope the car is fixed early as promised.
Pink Twirl - that sucks & I hope you impaled the olives on spiky things to teach them a lesson.0 -
Sarah it's a shame about the car, do you think all girls think garages are ripping them off or just a few? the trouble with garages is even if they are straight there's still the worry they might rip you off, my ex didn't have a clue about cars so he's no great loss there.
Pink Twirl I'm the clumsy one in my family, but you beat me with that run of luck, was the tv ok? saying that last night I decided to fetch my chilli plants in from the cold frames and bottle them in oil I should have done it months ago when I could have done it outside, I had to use a torch in the garden cos it's so dark and one of the plant pots cracked on the hallway leaving compost everywhere, and to top it all cos they were only small chilli's I decided to try one, for something so small it set my mouth on fire, I had to go out and suck cold air in, my lips were burning for a good hour after.0 -
I managed to find a good garage a few years ago and would never consider going back to the main dealer. Took my Beetle in one time to the VW garage and was quoted £1,400 for an MOT and service, "So will we just crack on with those works then?"
"NOOOOOOOOO - don't touch it". Took it out there and then, went to my local garage and got exactly the same works done for under £300 plus the MOT fee. I'm sure these main dealers get most of their business through company cars and the like where people just go in and say, "Yeah, just do it".
The other advantage of the local garage is it is 10 yards away from a bus stop. The main dealers garage is not at all handy and they left me crossing a dual carriageway in a suit carrying a briefcase running between the traffic to get home!!!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Hi Lula,
I'm afraid that I couldn't bear to look at the olives again. I think they are lurking at the back of a cupboard.
