  • Hi paddlingfuriously, hope you enjoyed your hols!

Re losing weight am off to do my healthy shop later, might just go and get a paper and laze about for a bit first though!

Re debts I have joined the September £10 a day challenge, no idea if I will manage it, but I am determined to try, I like the idea of updating my signature as I can actually see the small amounts adding up rather than just putting them in my purse and spending it as usual. Am heavily into my overdraft so need to get that sorted this month. Need to go and do some clicks- I hate them, they are so boring! I like it when the money arrives though, so will just have to grit my teeth and get on with it!

  • Hi Sarah! I had the best hols thanks - practically had to be dragged back on the plane!

I am going to try and join up the weight loss and saving money so my aims for this month are to bring my lunch in from home every day (and for it to be healthy!), to cut down on the amount of wine I guzzle and to go to circuits at least twice a week (which will hopefully keep me out of the pub and stop me going home and eating loads of food in front of the TV).

The ten pounds a day challenge sounds like a really good idea - I might give it a go but at five pounds to ease me in gently!

I would definitely recommend joining a challenge, it has really motivated me! Have just been to the bank to pay in £15 I found in my savings book, have just been looking down the back of the sofa for any coins! Should get a bit of Quidco money tomorrow to add as well.

Not managed the shopping yet, but am feeling very motivated today, just put some washing on and am doing some decluttering in my room, have filled a bin bag so far. I always feel better when it's tidy, but have trouble keeping it like that. Just have too much stuff- and I am still paying for most of it unfortunately!

  • Hi all,
this is my first post and hopefully the begining of a road to a debt free world. I have not had a bank account since 2000 when I got divorced and walked away from all my financial responsibilities. Well I more flew away and hid in Thialand for a year. When I returned I got together with a new partner and got a new job however, I got all my monies payed into my girlfriends account for 7 years, which paid the mortgage and what not. Again when this broke up, I was left stranded without any assests or bank accounts. I am now sick of being a non entity in the world of finances as I would like to tackle my past errors with banks and eventually obtain a mortgage. I did try recently to open a savings account but was unsuccessful, they didnt give a reason for the refusal.
I am about to start a new job but havent got a bank account to pay my wages into so I am having to consider redirecting my salary into a trusted persons account.
I have been super stressed for years over the debts my short lived marriage landed me in and cant see a way out. I think I probably owe in excess of £30.000. Any support would be appreciated.

Hi keller, I can't really advise you re bank account but I think that you are entitled to a basic bank account even if you don't have a credit history, I think most banks have them, the best thing to do is start a new thread asking for advice as the people on here are absolutely brilliant and will know what is best for you to do.

Re being stressed about the debts, you are definitely in the right place, as lots of people here know exactly what you mean, my debts used to be almost the same as yours and there is light at the end of the tunnel, it just takes planning and time. You will get there. As I said, if you start a new post, as it may not be seen by as many people in this thread, you will get lots of brilliant advice and support on everything.

Sorry I can't be more help and don't worry, you can sort this xxx

  • Just to echo what Sarah said Keller - ask for help on here and you will get it - a new thread is definitely the way to go. Good luck and let us know how you get on ok?

It might be a good idea to get a copy of your credit history, I think you can get a free one from Experian, pretty sure there are links on the main site as martin recommends that everyone does it regularly. When you recieve this it will enable you to have a clearer picture of whats out there in your name etc.

Scary as it is, I know I like to get all of my cards on the table and then start forming a plan. There are many people here with oodles of advice who have been in practically every situation you could think of so dont worry about being judged as people want to help!!

Also agree that a basic bank account would be the way forward, I have a Natwest version. These are meant for people who have a poor credit history, or on benefits (since the government states you have to have payments made to an account now) you need to look for the accounts with no facilities on (no overdraft, chequebook etc). Mine took about 3 weeks to set up as you have to sign the forms when they arrive and return with your ID which they then return to you.

Most of all, keep in touch here through the whole process, most of us are here for the longterm, and from what I have seem even the people that get debt free hang around so it must be as nice as we say it is ;)

    in addition! Hi all!! :grouphug:

Been trapped on the competition forum, trying to enter all the comps there atm, actually had dreams last night of filling in forms  figure I have to at least enter to get a chance of winning something nice!

Glad to see you are all busy, I am just getting DS stuff ready for his first day in Junior School tomorrow, fun times. I also started something not very DFW :o I had come accross a website called SOS (Support our Soldiers) and they help arrange sending parcels over to our soldiers, mainly for the people that dont have families providing them with goodies. So myself and mum have grabbed 2 shoeboxes and are presently popping things in. Pretty much anything is loved over there from toiletries to teabags, sweets to snacks, puzzle books to paper/pens etc. My mum being as crazy as she is grabbed lots of bits in town today (travel sizes of stuff) and myself and DS are going to pop in things over the next week or so that we have in our daily shop. We are dropping it up to a local co-ordinator so wont need to worry about postage costs etc.

As much as me and my DS are struggling it touched a heartstring to think of some of these poor guys & girls stuck in the desert with very little basics and no contact from back home either  I'll also be honest and say it helps me too if I concentrate on someone or something else, especially if it has a uniform too :o :rotfl:

    PS Keller

When you get your credit report - go through a cashback site like Quidco - you'll get the free trial and abt £5/6 cash back. (it all helps :) ) - further info on cashback sites are on the shopping/spending tab above and there should be some threads in up ur income. havent worked out how to add links in sorry
