I have done that before now. We had a works party in a local hotel where the bar prices are extortionate (two pints of bitter, two G&T's = £22!!!). I took my own vodka and orange juice and I was far from the only one that did so.

On the subject of Orange Wednesdays (someone earlier mentioned they weren't on Orange), I was wondering, because my maths isn't particularly great, if you were a regular cinema goer whether it would be worth getting a really cheap PAYG mobile on Orange (WH Smith do one for £14.99) to use just to get the bogof's on a Wednesday. With cinema prices more than £5 each, it wouldn't take you long to recoup your money.

There's an article on it on main site, with the loophole. I was looking at it this morning cos last night me and friend couldn't get in to see Mamma Mia due to amount of people there.
Sorry, hadn't seen it - I only come here to title tattle on the fora/ums!

Why do people feel the need to eat at the cinema?
I go to watch a film, not to eat junk food and sweets, and sometimes all the munching that goes on can be quite irritating. It looks like people are having a whole meal there: jumbo size cola, nachos and huge cartons of popcorn.
Why can't people just seat there and watch the film?
I sorta agree with this, films don't last long, why eat there. Watch the film then go for food at a pub afterwards, you can get a meal for 3 for the price of popcorn, sweets and fizzy drinks.
I can understand that if you go to see a film you want the whole experience, I used to be an usherette in days gone by, but think nowadays, you should see it as going to see the film, then eat elsewhere, think the cinemas are not giving value for money where food is concerned.whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

our local cinema THE ODEON IN KENSINGTON charges 9.25 a ticket !!! no reductions for kids after 6pm. when we went recently we bought a huge box of popcorn and asked for some little boxes so we could share it without dropping it everywhere they completely refused and said we had to buy boxes in order to get them. we dropped a fair amount, not a feeling of guilt between us.
we now go to the CORONET IN NOTTiNG HILL where the tickets are only 3.50 on tuesdays AND you can take your own food and drink in. BOYCOTT DONT SHY AWAY.0 -

You have been brainwashed lol! you don't need sugary food and drinks to enjoy a film. Quite the opposite!
I think it's very much part of the way British people live though. When I first arrived here, I was surprised by the grazing/ snacking habit that exists. I'd never seen newsagents where you can buy bags of crisps (actually where I come from there aren't any individual bags of crisps available) and bars on choccie to munch on throughout the day.
And people wonder why there is an obesity problem?LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Don't you think also that because people eat and drinks, and there are spillage and teenagers and kids playing with their food (tales told to me by my horrified DD ) that the cinemas get dirty very quickly?LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

I sometimes treat myself to some popcorn, but I do begrudge paying £3.20 for a tiny bag when popcorn is so cheap to make. If it was cheaper then I probably would treat myself more often, or if I had someone to share the popcorn with (my bf doesn't do popcorn!) as the next size up is £3.60 and is nearly double the size. I wouldn't take a backpack with food in as at my cineworld they do search backpacks (luckily the friend I was with didn't have any outside food and drink in there!). A chocolate bar or some sweets in a handbag is another matter thoughMortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000
