  • Barclays haven't asked me for any information regarding my income / expenditure!
They don't have to take an income and expenditure form if they think they can assess it without it.
Yes, we are in arrears with our council tax and have taken two months since we paid as we couldnt afford it. They are now asking for £150 (£60 more than we usually pay) by 5th Aug.
ok, which account do you use as the main account?
We owe a significant amount to the electricity company and are on a payment plan with them to cover usage and a small amount of the owed amount.

The payment plan on the debts negates it really from hardship. I would concentrate on the account which you use the most and have had council tax direct debits returned from,

I sent a letter to the Halifax some time last year and got the standard "all charge claims are on hold until the test case is completed etc.."

I have now sent the financial hardship letter to the Halifax due to council tax arrears, debt collecting letter as the Halifax referred my account to them and utility bill arrears that are with debt collectors.

What do you think my outcome would be? I have spoken to Halifax Money Management team previously and they advised that my expenditure was more than my income.

Do you think they would pay out to me? They can hardly argue the fact that financial hardship doesn't exist surely?

I think they could do but I would expect them to respond to you. In the meantime remember to tell the DCA on the main account that the account is formally in dispute and you have a bank charges claim with the bank.

You think they could do what? Does anyone have a copy of the income and expenditure sheet I will probably have to fill in as I could then respond with a swift reply?

I know the Halifax are one of the worst banks around, let alone when you have an issue with them!

I'm returning to full time education in london in september and my I'm currently in repayment plans for my credit cards.
I'm claiming £1625.55 from HBOS from april 04 to present, sent 1st letter with copy of charges, interest table and a financial statement on 25th june, got a response saying they were looking into on 6th July and received a letter today offering me £266 for the charges between april and july this year only.
it sayd if I'm not happy with this I should contact FOS.

What do I do next? Do I need to wait another 4 weeks before contacting FOS or do I write/call HBOS?

    thanks in advance

Can I clarify whether you are claiming BANK CHARGES or CREDIT CARD CHARGES?

If it is BANK CHARGES can I ask why you want to go to the FOS?

I need advise on what to do next.

I put in my claim with Halifax in January 08 - and this year sent them a letter claiming financil hardship due to becoming unemployed. They replied giving me the usual spiel but saying I could take it up with the Ombudsman which I did.

The FSA sent me a letter saying they had written to Halifax. Have now just received a letter from Halifax saying that nothing will happen until the legal proceedings are over and that they will not reply to any further communications sent by me or a chosen representative on this matter.

So what now? Is it back to the financial ombudsman?

Do you have priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities)?
