Best to leave at least a couple of months AFTER your discharge to start the cleanup processWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

I'm at my wits end with Cahoot/Santander after going round in circles between their respective customer service and complaints department and the Santander collections & recoveries department. I have just passed the 6 year anniversary of filing for bankruptcy but my delight at having the majority of defaulted accounts drop off my credit files was overshadowed by just one account at Cahoot!! This is the shot version of the story:
Cahoot Current Account defaulted 09/04 and initially listed as such with both Experian and Equifax. The account didn’t show as settled with Equifax so I contacted Cahoot in late 2010 to ask for this to be amended. The default date with Experian was incorrectly changed to 12/05 and the ‘date last delinquent’ incorrectly changed with Equifax from 09/04 to 09/10.
My file needs to be updated to show a default date of 09/04 and be marked as satisfied which will cause it to drop off my credit files... yey!! I've sent numerous letter and faxes and have had alost daily phone calls over the last few weeks trying to get this sorted out...
Finally today I was told to write to:
Credit Data Quality Unit
Santander House
201 Grafton Gate East
Milton Keynes
MK9 1AN
This isn't the address that is listed as the data controller on this website and I was wondering if anyone had successful outcome after writing to this department of if I should just write to the data controller as well?
Thanks
According to Santander they can't see the the Cahoot one so i need to send a copy of my credit report in . I am doing that today (From Equifax) .

I too had problems with Cahoot/Santander. In the end it was Experian who were able to help/direct me - the address they gave me to write to is :
AAM129,
Abbey House,
201, Grafton Gate East,
Milton Keynes,
MK9 1AN
I sent them the standard letter and it took about 6 weeks but I have finally had a response from them saying they will correct the data. Hope this Helps.0 -
My 6 years 'fall off' date was November 2010. I'd already checked my credit file and wrote my letters (thanks to this site!) to clean it up, but it wasn't until a month later that my file appeared clear (what a long month that was!). However, when I then applied for a credit card with Halifax, who I bank with, I got rejected due to the 'payment history' on my other credit accounts (mobile phones, insurance, etc - all perfect payment history). I'm hoping to apply for a mortgage soon and a broker has said I should have no problem, but why am I still a bad credit risk? Should I apply for a credit-rebuilder credit card to improve my file or just leave it and apply for a mortgage without having a credit card first. Does it help or doesn't it matter?0

Hi Guys....
Wondering whether you can help me.
I was discharged from Bankruptcy in April and am now looking at cleaning up my file. I have checked on Equifax and all my accounts say default and the dates are after my bankruptcy.
As I was discharged automatically I have still not received a confrimation letter from the OR. I tried contacting them this week and they said I need to speak to the court at where my bankruptcy was filed and they charge £60 for the letter!!!
Is this right? anyone have any advice on what I can do?
Many Thanks,
James0 -
Hi. everyone.
I know that a few of you have had some problems getting the CRFs corrected in the recent past.
Specifically that:
1) Some creditors have been insisting that you prove that a debt was listed on your bankruptcy Statement of Affairs before they will correct the entries.
2) On complaining to the ICO, they themselves have been demanding copies of the SOA to prove the debt was listed before they will consider a complaint.
As I am sure you are aware, under law a debt or liability that exists at the time of the bankruptcy order is covered by that order REGARDLESS of whether the debt is listed in the orignal SOA for the court/OR.
Therefore, requiring you to show a debt was on the SOA before data is corrected or an official complaint is processed is both unfair and incorrect.
Some time back this was queried with the ICO, and the following response has now been received.Thank you for your enquiry regarding the Information Commissioner’s Office requesting a copy of the debtor’s petition statement of affairs involving cases where individuals have looked to correct their credit reference files following a bankruptcy.
I can confirm that we had requested this information previously but this is no longer the case.
The Information Commissioner’s Office has become aware that under the Insolvency Act 1986, a bankruptcy debt refers to any debt or liability an individual is subject to at the commencement of the bankruptcy. As a result of this, we no longer request an individual’s petition statement of affairs when dealing with these types of cases.
I hope you have found this information useful and trust that it clarifies our position on the matter.
Yours faithfully

In other words, if the ICO no longer needs it, neither does the creditor. So now NO EXCUSE.

Don't be down-hearted, I found it really rewarding seeing my clean file. It feels like closure after all those months and years of worry and stress. This is the beginning of your new start, it's just a bit (or a lot!) of letter-writing you have to do to get to the starting line!0 -
