Bankruptcy Credit Reference File Clean Up - Discussion

Hi
I'm new to posting in forums so apologies if I do anything wrong!
I've been discharged from bankruptcy and am in the process of cleaning up my credit records with Experian & Equifax.
I have a couple of joint debts and a joint bank account. What happens to these debts?
I know i'm no longer liable for the debts but does my name get removed from the accounts or does it stay on there until my ex pays them off? Do I have to do anything special to get my name removed?
I really don't want to have any links to my ex so my preference is to get my name removed from any accounts she is now liable for.
Any advice would be really great!

Hi, I just wanted to ask a quick question.
I went bankrupt in November 2005.
I have 3 default records on my Credit record, 2 with Northern Rock, the Mortgage, then a loan as we took a 125% mortgage with them, then one with Paragon, effectively a 2nd mortgage.
I have read that the default date should be the date you went bankrupt, Paragon has this correct, 15/11/2005 BUT Northern Rock has the default date as 28/03/2006 on the loan and 06/03/2007 on the Mortgage which means rather than the records wiping off next year when the 6 years is up I have another 2 years to go until 2013 before the mortgage default goes off my record.
Can anyone advise me if I am right and should get this changed?
Many thanks in advance0 -

I have read that people have been cleaning their Credit Files ... how do you go about doing this? I haven't got a clue.
This is my first time on a forum .. so please be gentle with me and apologies if its posted in the wrong place!
Hi, I went BR around the same time for the same reason and I have a bank account with an overdraft, a credit card, a building society account, mobile, etc. You definately should look at it as sounds like something wrong that you can't get even the basics.
I look at my credit report regularly, I am not an expert at cleaning it up I have muddled through, got excellent advise here and Credit Expert have been brilliant helping me sort mine and giving advice.
You will get all the advice you need on here so good luck, but once you get on top of it your credit will eventually come good, or better at least, I am proof.
Hope you get there:)0 -
Just checked mine and the two defaults have been removed completely, by that I mean the whole entries rather than the default being changed to the date of the bankruptcy or changed to settled, is this what should have happened??
Not officially, although it's not bad.
I would keep a check on it though, to make sure they don't come back again. with still incorrect info. That can happen.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Making sure that the data on your files is correct and no worse than it should be is probably a better way of putting it.

I've almost doen my credit files so now I'm going to start on the CCJ's.
How do I go about cleaning up CCJ that are on my file? Do I send the same letter to the courts or to the origianl creditor?
Regards
You can request confirmation from a creditor that the CCJ is "settled", but they are not obliged to do that in the way they must for defaults.
If a creditor agrees to this, then you provide that to the court and ask for the CCJ to be marked as settled.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

You name doesn't get removed due to the BR.
If the account has been defaulted, then the info stays for 6 years and is then removed.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Mortgages are a bit different. Or can be.
I've had mixed and confusing responses from the ICO on this, so I would suggest that you make your own inquiry with them.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi,
On my experian file it shows 88888 and a balance o/s of £2489 on a c/card. The default date is 30/12/2005 and i was declared bankrupt 01/06/2005 and dischargd the yr later so I assum the date is ok??
However it needs to show settled, it was with nationwide, does anyone know the address as i cant seem to find it. Nationwide credit card services.
Thanks0 -
Also does anyone know what 'special instruction' means by this record with experian also dates says 01/03/090
