I put my trainers in the washing machine. I also put my summer backless hush puppies and sketchers in there - they are both leather. I was worried they might ruin but thought well i cant wear them stinking so its the washing machine or the bin lol - and they came out fine.

Im not saying u should do this but I am telling u what i do.

I have been stupidly wearing my black leather shoes with no socks or tights in this hot weather and they stink - can they be saved??? I have bought some insoles with freshner but is there anything I can do to get the worst out?? Thanks - they have cottony style lining rather than leather so you can imagine the stench has soaked right in!!

Try sprinkling the insides with bicarb of soda, that should help absorb some of the smell!!!

I am led to believe that placing your shoes inside a plastic bag and then into the freezer will kill the bacteria that cuase the odour.

Haven't tried it myself as i always fear the cold will damage the leather/rubber - but the idea seems sound.
