Disinfectant spray (not antibacterial cleaner, but actual disinfecting spray like Dettol Disinfectant Spray in an aerosol can) works a treat - both kills the bacteria and makes the shoes smell nice (mountain breeze or whatever...)
Just spray thoroughly and leave to dry.student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -
Hi all, my daughter has come back from Uni with a pair of shoes that literally have fumes coming from them :rotfl: . None of her other shoes smell like this pair, does anyone know why and what we can do?
They are leather sling back court type shoes. I've put them outside, I wondered where the dreadful smell was coming from, the birds will be passing out.

Sounds like some sort of synthetic lining, making the feet sweat terribly...horrid things (the shoes, not the feet!)! Don't know what to suggest other than bicarb sprinkled in generously and left for as long as possible??...I'm sure other people here will have more useful suggestions!0

I posted about stinky shoes a few weeks ago - someone suggested putting them in the freezer overnight - apparently it kills the smell. Someone else suggested spraying them with a vinegar/water solution. I haven't tried either yet, I must get round to it.

Thanks for all the tips, haven't got a cat - wish I'd sent off for that free sample now! Thought I would put the shoes in the freezer to start with and then if that hasn't worked try Bicarb as I've got some of that in the cupboard, if that fails I'll be off to the shops!0
