it defrosts fairly slowly, but i tend to zap it in the microwave if i forget to take it out in the morning...which is quite often.:mad:
I've tried a load of base sauce recipes and this is the best and cheapest. like you, i have tried puree, but i found that had a metallic tatse and you do use quite a lot!

I always make HM pizza base by hand using plain flour, oil, salt, yeast and warm water.. always turn out well.
However I have the panasonic 253 BM so thought I would have a go in that to compare the 2 methods.
I have got the instructions book and it says to use..
1/2 tsp yeast
300g Strong white flour
1/2 tbsp sugar
15g butter
1 tbsp milk powder
1 tsp salt
210 ml water
I would never have thought milk powder would be there, also do you think oil would be better than the butter..
As many of you have this BM I wondered how many have used this and how it compares.0 -
I have the Panasonic 253 and have used the pizza recipe in it. I followed the recipe to the letter and the pizza dough turned out absolutely delicious! I would try it as it states. Yum!0

Oil and butter do the same job so I don't suppose it matters. But we follow the panasonic recipe and Oh Yum! We use less water than it says though otherwise we find it a bit gloopy. I think it depends on the type of flour you use and maybe even if your water is soft or hard?
We get 2 decent sized pizzas out of that recipe. If you try to make one big one it will be very thick and imo heavy. It keeps well in the fridge in a freezer bag.
EDIT: I forgot to say that we haven't used milk powder once in any of the recipes and find them delicious as they are.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
The milk powder (according to the Breadmaking book I have) is there to give a better golden crust to the loaf. You could replace some of the liquid with fresh milk, but if you were using the BM on timer, there is a chance that this could go sour.0

thanks FS... I always wondered why milk powder was used in BM.. always seemed odd to me... when making a loaf I use tesco coffee whitener which must be sort of the same thing and they always turn out well.0

So use you the one as above, miss out the milk powder but use the butter, and do not add anything to replace the milk powder, and they turn out great??? Have I got it GR?0 -
Hi - personally I would try it with just the ingredients you always use if you are happy with the result. After all, the BM is just mixing and kneeding it. Might be a different matter if the BM was baking it as well because the BM bakes differently to an oven and the other ingredients are meant to enhance the loaf (like the crust that foreverskint mentions which is probably easy to achieve in an oven but not in a BM so the milk powder helps it along a bit).0

I've made the Panasonic pizza dough recipe as well and I never add butter to any bread recipe, only a splash of oil. Turns out really well. I think it's a matter of taste whether or not you add the milk powder; I never used to use it with my old breadmaker but have always added it to this new one and the results have been very yummy.
Have to admit the first time I made the pizza dough recipe I thought it looked a tiny amount and not enough to make a decent sized pizza for my piggy family (so I bunged another quantity in whilst I rolled out the first batch). Well, it stretched and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d so much there was plenty to feed four and I was then stuck with another batch which I had to find room for in the freezer! So it's very deceptive. But very tasty. Give it a go!
